If I'm careful, is it possible to change this without taking the timing belt off.

Yes Yes, I know, if I need to replace the pulley I should change everything at once. Please don't start yelling at me. Problem is, I won't have the ability to do all of that at least for the next month or so. Besides, during that time I don't think I'll put more than 100 miles on my ZX2.

Until then, the only place I can work on the car is an apartment parking lot. So can I replace the pulley (closest to the front of the car) without having to take the belt off?

Thanks

Is the pulley defective?

LOL, well I'm not changing it for the fun of it.

Yeah, I've had a crazy noise start up in the engine area. Couldn't track it down for a while, until I got my stethescope out. Heard it loud and clear when I placed it on the pulley. Bearings must have gone.

I bet you could. Like you said yourself, it's probably not the best idea to run with some stuff good, and some stuff not, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Just make sure to get the rest of it changed out too. If one thing is going, you can bet your balls that the rest of the pulleys are probably getting close as well.
