View Full Version : How can you tell ?

i brought a NGP0 from a memeber on this site. however, after a few transactions from some currently un-named persons, i tend to question the integrity of some of our fellow members (sad,, but true). questions is, how can you tell if a NGP0, is indeed a NGP0? is there a serial number somewhere ? can ford tell me?
how can you tell if its genuine? anyone? anyone?

there should be a sticker near where you plug it in. mine says it right under the EEC-V designation.

yes, but the plug in cover has been removed. all i have is a sticker,, that says NGP0 at the main connection point. is there more to go on?

If you're not 100% sure on the buyer, don't buy.

DON'T take it to a dealership. Ford will reflash it to the GRS0 code..and you DON'T want that. the NGP0 was the non-cali legal pcm...and everyone who's tried taking it into a stealership has had it reflashed to the worse-than-stock GRS0.

it's the '99 s/r pcm..only 106 were made. according to what was posted on the old forum..it's the only non-cali legal pcm. of the 2000 s/r's made in '00 (cwq3, xhg3, grs0), they were all cali-legal.

hrm i hope not, I got it in a ford racing box("ngp0 box") from djone27 or something of that sort on the old site, it has the NGPO on the big sticker as well as on the little black plastic part that's where like a superchip would plug in. 99 sr's were mostly sold in California so that's why I can't understand NGP0 not being legal there

paid 200 bucks for it to. i didnt really notice any diffrence when i installed it. then again, i did replace the CWQ3 for the NGP0. so maybe my butt dyno cant tell the diffrence between the two

For those who are curious, I am the one who sold NGP0 to Gunslinger.
Gunslinger, I did not tamper with the PCM in any way. I never even ran it in my Z. I decided to do a head build which will require SCT, so I decided to sell the PCM. I shipped it to you exactly how I received it, and charged you exactly what I paid for it.
I bought it from Vit, I highly doubt he tampered with it.
I cannot say for sure, but there probably isn't a huge difference between CWQ3 and NGP0. Sure, we all agree that NGP0 is the best, but in your case, when compared to CWQ3, how noticable would the swap be? Maybe somebody else can comment on that.
Finally, I appreciate the fact that you never mentioned my name in this thread. Thank you for that. However, if you had any questions regarding the item that I sold you, you could have just sent me a PM. I would have been more than willing to help in any way possible. Instead, 5 months after the sale, you post this and question whether or not you got ripped off. I assure you, I am not here to rip anybody off.
Again, if you have questions, feel free to PM me.

ahhw hell bro, the said PCM was in question only after a string of bad luck buying things from others whom i choose not to name until i know for sure. it was not met to single you out. i merly seek a way to authenticate it. thats all. im just used to serial numbers being attached to everything. after my bad string of ,,luck,, all things are put into question. im sure you understand. ive brought things from people here (more than one ouccasion) lableing them things that i find out later they are not. this thread is what we call a knee jerk reaction. it was not met to dis-credit or dis-respect you in anyway.
if you wanna know the full story of why im doing this pm me, and i'll tell you. as i said though. i wish to authenticate everything now.
btw, good job with the shipping, never got around to telling that.

The gains are there. Vit has dyno sheets somewhere (might have been lost during the crash). However, when you look at minimal gains (example 4-9hp) you aren't going to notice it as much.
I went from the nlx0 to the cwq3. I do notice that at times it idles low (same as it used to) but there is better acceleration, and obviously no speed limiter.
From the pics, I would have to say that one is legit.

No, there were some 99's that came with JHJ0.

Dude, you don't know what you are talking about. '99 S/Rs were only sold in California, with a perfectly legal NGP0. So no, it's not non-Cali legal.
I don't think any of the '99 S/Rs were sold with JHJ0, but I could be wrong...

Damn, if I had $200 I wouldn't spend it on a NGP0. Save another $150 and you could get an Xcal.

humm,, i thought about that. but at that time i knew nothing at all about sct and PCM tuning. and i certainly didnt ask alot of questions. i have read sct was good and all. but i had no idea how to use it, and weather tit would do more harm long term. so i choose what i thought was more natrual for the zx2.

One way you could tell is by the rev limiter. What's it set to on the PCM you have? I think NGP0 has a 7,500 limit...

Not only was the ngp0 the s/r pcm , but before the code rvisions this was sold as ford racing PCM for the escort, so you could have gotten one that way too..
