View Full Version : Bulb Free!

As of tomorrow, I will officially be "bulb" free
Except for my HID's of course, which would still classify as a bulb, I'v switched everything else.
-LED front "corner" lights
-LED brake bulbs with proper load resistors
-LED license plate lights
-LED reverse lights
-LED dash lights
-LED festoon interior light
-LED HVAC lights
-LED Inner turn signals (to be installed tomorrow)
Why? Cheaper in the long run, I should never have to replace them again, MASSIVE drop in voltage draw, this may also be due to my HID headlights and fogs.
Most people could care less about this, but meh...
If anyone wants pics, I'm more than willing to take some

We should see if we can't do an LED group buy and get 20 or 30 people replacing all lights with LED.
This would reduce load on alternators brighten interiors, etc.
Plus, it would decrease the rear end accidents for zx2's since led lights activate faster.

its from a lower angle, hence so bright. looks good man, no problems with the "blinker on crack" syndrom?
chasingsafety
07-23-2008, 11:46 AM
they still blink fast, but not as fast as if the bulb was burnt, I think I could have used a little less voltage on the load resistor. It's emulating 12 volts, and outputting 5, I think I could step down to 2 volts output and still be safe, it's a work in progress tho.

how did you change the hvac lights to leds
well its real easy on the metra plate. Just heat up the old bulbs with a heat gun (melt the glue) pull them out, cut them off, and solder in some 12volt blue LED's. Glue them in, and your all set

If so it will fix the flashing rate of the turn signals with a load resistor.

I didn't use those style flashers. I'm sure they are on the list tho. But I used in line resistors. If you switch to those flashers, you won't be able to use standard bulbs in the future if you decide to sell your car, as they reduce voltage to roughly 5 volts.

^^ I realize that, but they can be removed though.
Could you maybe take a snap shot of how you wired in the resistors? Also tell us what resistors you used for them? What their Ohm rating is, ya know?
I've really been itching for LED's...
DOUGIESTYL

I put LEDs in my front and back signals. I used 10 resistors, total. They are all 10w/10ohm. I used one on each of the front turn bulbs. I wired the resistor as a parallel breach, instead of in-line on the positive.
On the back, I had to run two(2) resistors for each of the bulbs. IDK why. Instaling one didn't stop the "crack-head" blink.
If you t-tap the outer wires on the plugs, and hook the resistors from wire-to-wire, it causes enough load to stop the "crack-head" blink. * the center wire is the positive for the parking light filament.

I don't even have the car anymore dude, or else I would take some pics for ya. Dougiestyl has a good alternative tho, and more than likely much cheaper to by the actual resistors rather than the setup I had. This is the setup I purchased:
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/4783296/vpcsid/0/SFV/32481
Basicly just a 6 ohm resistor. I used two on each side for the rear

Thanks for in info. That will make things easier.
I'm hoping to do this soon. I already went down to Advance and got two plate light LEDs and a high mount LED, but the high mount isn't as bright as I'd like it to be, so I'll be replacing that one.
Thanks again.
