dropt, you must wear sunglasses everywhere, lol. That white would kill my eyes.

Nice though. I'm not a fan of color'd interiors, but yours is obviously a show car so that's a completely different category. Looks like a well done interior though.

This is the closest thing I have to I.C.E. in my car.

and i don't know if it's possible, but i have a suggestion for brandon's focus: put some plexiglass or s/t over that beast so he can still use his trunk area. unless more audio is going there, lol.

The 2nd setup in the S/R back in 06. Never finished the front of the box. Ended up selling the subs and got different amps and put a 15" Kicker CVX in the spare tire well.

a custom steel grill is in the works for it...

the focus with the wall is my old car its the one thats in my sig as highest spl...it was bad ass but the car did not like the extra 1400lbs esp since it was daily driven...

i have many more installs to add to the pics and a lot more work to do on the website so keep an eye on it and thanks for all the positive comments.

cool, cause i would hate to see that sub get damaged... it would make me sad... on a positive note, i put installed my sub yesterday (if yesterday was friday) and it is definitely underpowered and i definitely need a newer head unit that controls the sub and speakers separately so i don't blow them up... i'll get pics tomorrow; its late and dark, and i don't like dark, so....

*BEWARE 56k*

Okee dokee... Let's see here, this first pic is of my sub... I don't really know alot about it, I can't find any information on it, but it's a BLG brand, came with the box and originally had blue L.E.D.'s, but my friend took those out before he gave it to me. Other than that it is a 450 watt sub, and that is all I know about it. It's dual ported, so it has pretty good kick to it... and long tones are just awesome with it.... it's good for all kinds of music.

http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/745/pict0005cr7.th.jpg (http://img181.imageshack.us/img181/745/pict0005cr7.jpg)

And this picture is the wimpy amp. I don't really know much about it either, cause the only specs it really says is that it is a 300 watt amp (yea, the sub is underpowered, but my friend is borrowing my good amp). Umm, it's a Visonik... that's all I really know. But it works for now until I get the good amp back... and this isn't permanent, so I didn't try to really hide anything...

Its not to smart to under power the sub. I wouldn't be playing it till you get to the right rms.

ilarson007
04-20-2008, 11:17 AM
and y is that... and i have to wait until my friend is done using the good amp to get it back anyway

Its not to smart to under power the sub. I wouldn't be playing it till you get to the right rms.

Its fine to underpower, just as long as you arent trying to make it louder by turning the Gain up higher than what your preamp output is. Its when people turn the Gain up too far and it starts sending clipped signals that the sub overheats and falls apart.

Correct me if I'm wrong SimpleAudio, been a while since I've read up on any of that kind of info.

SimpleAudio
04-20-2008, 02:14 PM
you are correct...you are under powering a sub every time you do not have the volume maxed out...an amp does its rms wattage when the input voltage is matched to the gain setting. if the gain is all the way down (typically 8v on most amps) it will take 8v of input to make the amp do its rms rating so if you have the volume at half or 4v the amp will be producing half its rms power

this is all in theory as most amps produce power exponentially so half input could be more or less than half power and most source units will not put out 8v but i think you get the point.

on the other hand if you crank the gain and clip the amp to make up for the lack of clean wattage the amp will produce a lot of distortion or a "dirty" signal. this "dirty" signal will quickly cause the voice coil on a sub to heat up and over time can cause it to over heat resulting in a "blown" sub. this is where the BS myth of under powering subs is bad came from.

whats the model number on that visonik amp? i need a small sub amp and that might work for the time being

ilarson007
04-20-2008, 02:29 PM
um, let me go check... *runs outside* it is a visonik vb101pk but i don't think they sell it anymore... i got it in a "bass kit" at wal-mart. it came with a 10" sealed sub.

the specs right off the box:

1-Channel MONO block amp
300 watts max power handling
70 watts RMS @ 4 ohm <0.9% THD
Variable bass frequency 50-250Hz
power/protection L.E.D.
High-Level input (what's that?)
RCA mono input and output
thermal/overload/short protection circuitry
variable LP crossover
MOSFET circuitry

SimpleAudio

high level input is for running your factory speakers into it instead of low level rca style inputs...

its not enough power :-( i was hoping for 300 rms

no...would take a lot to stop someones heart unless they have a weak one...could easily do the hair trick though :-)

biggest box that will fit in the trunk opening of the zx2 is 33in wide, 16in high and 17in deep...and its very very very tight

do people ususally put their boxes in through the back seats? i've made a few for this car, and it seems almost impossible to get some big subs in there.

With the 2 seperate boxes screwed together, my setup was 32" x 15" x 9" at bottom and 7" at top.

Had to pie cut out the outter corners to clear the bracing under the rear deck.

I think you mean the biggest box you've put in through the trunk. I definitely have put a 36in wide, 12in high and 24in deep box through there.

One 15" Kicker XPL sub, run on a Rockford-Fosgate Power 250.2 amp
Two 10" Kicker CompVR subs, run on two channels of a Rockford-Fosgate Punch 600.4
Rockford-Fosgate 1.2mf Capacitor
All Raptor install hardware, 4g power & ground leads broken out to 8g distro blocks.
Kenwood MP3 CD player (can't remember exact model off the top of my head)
Kenwood iPOD connector

Eventually I will install some components up front for the other two channels of the 600.4amp.
