Champaign County Sports Car Club
The Amazing Lefty
Friday Night RallyJune 27, 2008
Registration: 7:00 PM
County Market on Glenn Park Dr. just off Mattis Ave. in Champaign
Rallymaster: Jerry White
Special Information:
The rally will be very straightforward but very unusual. In commemoration of the Indy 500, the rallyfeatures nothing but left turns. Unlike the Indy 500 though there will be more than four corners, the rallywill be only about 1 tenth the length, and the speeds will be less than one fourth as fast. Please note thatsince it will be light for most of the rally it will be a very good one for beginners. Also be aware that, since the rally is a bit of a maze, participants may sometimes doubt that they are making a correct turn when they see other participants going different ways. The rally will end around 9:30 PM at Monical'sPizza on Mattis Avenue with the usual "alibi hour" where everyone is welcome and where participantsexplain why they woulda, coulda, shoulda done better.
Registration Info:
The entry fee will be $15.00 per team. We recommend that you register close to the time registration opens. This will give you time to do the paperwork including certifying that your driver's/vehicle'sinsurance meets the appropriate state's standards, that the driver has a valid license, that your rally vehicle is being used with the permission of the owner, is in safe operating condition, is on the roadlegally, and that its operational items such as lights, turn signals, brakes, horn, tires, mirrors, seat belts, windshield wipers and windshield washer are in proper working order. It will also give you time to readthe rally's general rules and to talk to other rally participants. This last is especially important if you've never run a rally before.
Don't Have a Driver or Navigator?
If you don't have a partner to drive or navigate for you just come by yourself. At almost every rally thereare folks who come alone then team up with someone else to run the event. If you are lucky you'll have achance to team up with someone who has some rally experience. Sometimes that increases your chancesof winning a trophy. If you're only slightly less lucky you'll get to run with someone who has no rallyexperience and have twice the fun as you discover what rallying is all about. At the very worst (whichalmost never happens) there will be no one to partner with and you will get the chance to work some ofthe checkpoints and see how everyone is doing as the event progresses.
