I can't find the old guide we had, but here is a start to a new one.

Which one is ours?

We have gray or orange top 19# injectors if I am correct.

The Metal body Orange(19#)tops are EV1 injectors , the Gray(19#)Plastic body is the EV6 injector .

Sorry to sound noobish but what one's will fit in our fuel rail? They're all different sizes =(

JohnP

The EV1 injectors are the early style for the ZX2 .The EV6 are the later style used in the ZX2 . Some of the EV6 with the longer connector won't fit , like the Green And Black pictured.

and which one is NOT interchangeable due to the connectors?

JohnP

The EV6 connector won't fit the EV1 injector , but the EV1 connector will fit both . Theres a few EV6 injectors with EV1 connectors , can't remember the size , 24#/30# ?

The fuel rail clips are different between the two , depends on the fuel rail used as to which clip you use , ZX2/ZX3 . I modified the EV6 clip to fit the EV1 injector to fit the Focus fuel rail for the FRM . Theres always something else out there I don't know about , live an learn.

On the stock mustang injectors, are those for the v8 or the v6 or are they the same?

gunman_sr5

I believe they are the same, but don't quote me.

I just switched to the 19# EV6 injectors. I am getting better mileage with these. I guess the 4 hole gate on these atomize the fuel better. I have tried open pintle and 2 hole gate EV1 injectors, and can't get the mileage I get now.

So we have those 19#'ers stock what about those 24#ers off the Lincoln Continental would those be an easy swap onto a Zx2 They look very similar in size and shape so this would lead me to think it would be pretty easy to swap my stock ones out and put some of those on and i'm thinkin it might be good for a few extra ponies (More fuel=more power when properly tuned) I've got my engine pulled right now so i thought i might as well ask this now

You will want to get a tune for the upgrade to a 24# injector to get the max usage for it.....you really don't need to swap injectors just for general bolt-ons...the 19# stock ones would be fine.

So all of them are interchangeable with the stock ones exept the black and green ones with the longer connector? Just wanting to make sure I understand. The EV6 injectors hard to find?

so i gota question i wanna do a turbo build so if i get lightning injectors will they work in my 98 fuel rail?

Yes they will you will need a tune though of course.

That I don't know. You may be able to, but I wouldn't recommend it.

what tune do you suggest when installing bigger injectors?---does the MAF sensor need to be changed when upgrading injectors? what type of aftermarket tuning device has the capability to account for larger injectors with the obd2 system, and will it still pass emission testing?

I was searching around for something else and came across this....It's a little old but still can give you the general idea of what injector would be needed for your planned HP. Figured it needed to be in here.

These figures are from a Ford spec sheet I found back in '03 . This shows what one injector will support in HP , gives you an idea of what you'll need for what.
19# - 39 HP / 156 HP
24# - 49 HP / 196 HP
30# - 61 HP / 244 HP
36# - 73 HP / 292 HP
42# - 86 HP / 344 HP
52# - 106 HP / 424 HP
63# - 128 HP / 512 HP

Feel free to put this in the first post if needed.

Wow. The mustang ones look just like the set that is in my RX7. They use EV1 connectors so they may be an option for you guys as well. The years that would work would be the 86-87, after that they when to high imp injectors and changed the connector. There were 460cc injectors in the N/A and 550cc injectors in the turbo II.

Here's a good site, if the clip is the only thing stopping you here are some adapter clips and harnesses on this site. I'm getting the ones for my car from here because I have the high imps and need to convert to the EV1 and add some resisters inline. Hopefully this info will help somebody, I don't have my car so I can't verify if they fit in the rail though.

Anyone know what size the ones from a 97 Crown Vic w/ Interceptor run? They're flourescent orange EV1 style. I'm wondering if they're the same as the Explorer V8.

This maybe a bit of a noobish question but what are the pros and cons to the different injector types (pintle, 4 port disk, etc)? To me, it seems like the 4 port disk would give a better spray pattern but would be more prone to clogging than the pintle/needle type.

better atomization for a better burn.

will ny of these make better power with simple bolt ons

Upgrading isn't really needed until you start hittin' a little over 150hp. Then 24# injectors can carry you up to around 200hp or so.

ok, so i have a stock s/r, i plan on doing all the lil mods, like pots, kenman, and ill prolly port and polish, and bore out the intake, and throw 4-2-1 or some other header, and ill prolly delete or replace the cat

would 24#'s be the way to go, or stocks?

DOUGIESTYLE

stock will suffice. Injectors are pointless unless you go FI (turbo)

Here are a few calculations that I borrowed from other websites...

Calculation of cc/min required for a given amount of HP
=================================

BHP x 5
----------------- = injector size in cc/min
# of cylinders

Conversion between cc/min and lb/hr
=======================

1 cc/min = 0.01585 gal/hour
1 gal gas = 6 lbs
1 cc/min = 0.0951 lb/hour

Biggest thing people always say is it supports over 150hp. At the crank or wheel since thats a big difference.

Also remember if your making power because of cam gears, upd, or freeing up power else were doesn't mean your making more power were you need to use more fuel.

This is pretty cool bc that means that I can use the stock ones from my SC bird since I upgraded those to 42's...
