Ya my zx2 which is a 2000 came with a cone type filter and takes a cone type k&n !! some things wrong here ???

They could have used different air boxes at any time at the factory. Maybe they ran out of the round housings and used some of the old escort or tauras square housings......:shrug:

old ford racing cats listed a flat airfilter.. misprint ..it was for some focus...iirc.. it was a ford racing part..

Neither my 98 or 99 came with a flat filter nor have I seen one on any of the other 50+ zx2's I looked at before buying my 99.

ZX2's do not have cabin air filters...and I have never seen a flat airbox on any escort or zx2...

this filter is for the previous generation escorts. It can also be used on the miata. The last generation of escort/zx2/tracer used a conical filter. Some companies (like summit) have incorrectly listed this part as a ZX2 part.
