I have a near stock 98 ATX ZX2. Is there even a chip that would improve my car?

I feel really stupid for asking, but if i had a dime for everything I know about car electronics i would have about 20 cents...

I'm more concerned about fuel economy than power,but....

I know it's a stupid question, but please don't flame me...

Also, was there a "hot to" on the site before it changed that told you what to do with it?

*hides*

yes, I have a blue superchip on kvt4, most mods are in my sig, I run premium, and I've seen as high as low 40's for mpgs

Don't feel stupid for asking. That is what people do.

Yeah, you can get chips to work with it. IIRC there was an issue with some 98s. Might want Vit to chime in about that though. If you got a chip with multiple settings, you could have one for economy, and one for power.

In addition to tuning the car for higher octane gasoline, the chip will also allow it to rev higher between shifts and make your shifts faster. One some ZX2's and other auto trans fords it makes it accelerate faster and also prolongs transmission life because there is less slipping during shifts.

Question about having the car run on premium.

Is the mileage increase on par with the price increase for premium (wait... is premium 89 or 91?)?

Are there chips that work with regular gas, if so - how much do these go for, and where can i get them.

Are these just plug and play? Do I have to get someone to tune my car?

That is some pretty nice numbers. I have a Superchip on my MTA4 and average just over 36mpg with mostly city driving. But I really don't have a lead foot when driving around town. Helps with the gas mileage and there are just too many cops in town. We got city cops; we are the county seat so got sheriff deputies; and we are located on a major interstate hence state boys around as well.

Read this, it'll answer most of your questions before you even think to ask them.

for the compensation for premium, would you pay 20 more cents per gallon for 8-10 more miles per gallon? ;)

where is do I put it? On the PCM

where is the computer in my car? Under the center console, right under the cubby

would it be incredibly hard for me if i have no previous experience or skill? There is an old saying. "If Connal can do it, anyone can. And although I have not done it. I know I could. Ten maybe fifteen minute job tops.

alright so, you all agree that superchip is a good piece?

2 more questions and I think i'm done...

1.) Do i have to do anything with the chip between buying it and installing it? (programming the thing, whatever.)

2.) What are the odds of finding one for sale used (say on this site) and would it be wise to buy said used chip?

It would need to be programmed. The shop you get it from might be able to do a mail order tune. But a dyno tune is the best.

It all depends. If it matches your pcm, and you have similar mods. Go for it. Tuning is normally one of the latter things you do to utilize all your mods.

very true...where you'll see the most improvement on an ATX with a chip is your shifting points will improve greatly!

It would probably be easier for you to find a flasher (like the Xcal) instead of fooling with a chip. All you have to do is plug it into the OBD-II port and it'll write the program on your PCM. You don't have to take the PCM out or sand down the contacts so it'll work.

How would I get one of these chips? I have all the main bolt-ons....intake, headers, exhast, UDP and was looking to optimize the power because a S/R just has a tuned ECU and intake/exhaust and it runs 150HP.

I have a ATX tranny :-(

The S/R has more than just that. And it is closer to 140 than 150.

Just look around a little bit, I know for a fact it has been said many times.
