Free horsepower through weight reduction
100lbs of removal (not including wheels/tires) transfers to about 1/10s on the 1/4.
A/C removal = 40lbs
Spare tire, jack, false trunk floor = 32lbs
Lightweight rims (ALT 210) = 12lbs
Passenger side airbag = 9lbs
Replace stock batter with a Genesis = 20lbs
Remove those heavy floor mats = 6lbs
Esslinger UDP = 4lbs
Carbon Fiber hood = 23lbs
Remove cat & manifold and replace with 4-2-1 header = 10lbs
Remove windshield washer = 4lbs
Remove rear seat, replace front seats with lightweight racing seats = 30lbs
Aluminum flywheel = 11lbs
There's about 200lbs of weight reduction so far. If your not concerned with the interior appearance, rip out the driver and passenger side door panels for another 15lbs.
ZETEC Engine Dimensions

I believe you can remove a metal piece in the glove box that weighs 2 or 3 lbs. I forget though it was on one of the older sites

Powderz udp 10 lbs I swear to god. A/C removal eh by itself it's nothing, I just found out my friend mark730 doesn't have A/C and I used to tear his zx2 up all the time.

Yea, it doesnt decrease drag on the engine but it does remove weight.

Only matters if the a/c is on, the a/c has a clutch in it.. so when its not on it turns freely.
Removing the a/c really counts as weight.

I got rid of my door glass, window motor, power lock parts, door panels, headliner, carpet... OK, I just gutted it!
All that's left are the two front seats.

ya...i agree...but i dont give a shit how my interior looks...later on i might strip it all and spraycan it but i have more things to do. i am about performance....not looks

17's don't help straight line speed either then. Go back to 15's or 16's with good tires or even 14's with D/R's or slicks maybe. Thats performance.

no...i like my 17's. they dont weight too much either. to me a zx2 with 14's or 15's looks too dorky. and yes...17's would help top speed more than 14's or 15's would..

I would like to see how 17's help acceleration and top speed. My civic ran a full second slower with 17's then 14's with good tires which is why I say this.

with 14's your going to get better torque but your going to run through the gears faster..every gear your going to loose some mph. its simple...one full rotation of a smaller tire covers less ground than one full rotation of a larger tire. the only other difference will be weight between the two. also civics have the worst torque ever so i can see why you would run worse with a larger wheel size

Overall diameter/circumference of the tire is what determines the ground you cover per rotation. NOT the size of the rim.
As for which is faster. The closer you can get the weight to the center of rotation will be the faster setup. Yes, there is a point where performance is sacrificed because of taller sidewalls.
Basically, run 16s for performance, 17s or 18s for looks.

From what I've heard there is no difference in times due to wheel size it's the weight that throws it all off, you don't see Le mans cars using 14's they just happen to use extremely light wheels.
Even if it is true in quarter mile who cares, I like corners as do most people and 17's would stick to the road better.

Torque has nothing to do with tires and wheels torque is all on the motor, getting it to the ground however is through the tranny to the wheels. I would think the gearing and the motor are the only things that have to do with top-end. The wheels would have to do with acceleration which is why I'm assuming a larger wheel would make it hard for the tranny to turn it as effective as a smaller wheel. Obviously the speed-limiter stops top-end. With the 17's I would also trap a slower MPH.
I also agree that the 17's are good for cornering which is why I stated straight line performance. Which is also why Le-mans cars and Drag cars are set-up almost opposite you don't get both there is a compromise somewhere. Once you get to a race point.

Its been dyno proven (on a zx2 no less) that deletion of A/C and P/S on a zetec will net 12whp. Even when they're not being used, both are producing drag on the crank pulley.

The A/C does not drag on the belt any more or less then a delete pulley when the A/C isn't on. The PS drags all the time. Unless you dyno both deletes individually, you can't say the A/C had anything to do with the power gain in the dyno.

Have you ever disassembled an A/C compressor? I work on HVAC systems for oem automotive applications, I think I know what I'm talking about.

thats why you dont waste money on a delete pulley and buy a shorter belt. that what i did...powders UDP,PS delete, and AC delete and bought a 46" belt and it works like a charm

I have spun the a/c pulley off of the car. There's no way that any free pulley worth its salt provides as much resistance as the a/c pulley, even when the a/c is not on.
