I think thats about it for the turbo setup. As for now the car is a couple hundred miles away and not running. I think I spun a main bearing last fall and havent been able to tear into it to find out. This summer, if my shop owner can let me borrow a bay, I plan to get the car down here with me and tear out the whole powertrain and fuel system, basically redo everything.

The car was never fully dyno'd. I kept maxing out the svt fuel pump at 14 psi. I did have an ok street tune on it though. Not sure how fast it really was but if I put it to the floor in 3rd, it would break the tires loose at 80mph. At 8 psi it was dead even with my buick that ran consistent low 13's (13.20's @ 103), so at 14 psi who knows???

I'm probably gonna go this route since I'm going to be cutting out my wheel well, welding a flat piece of sheet metal in, putting a fuel cell in the trunk and getting rid of the gas tank. Weight loss should be considerable and leaving tons of room underneath for the remote turbo and tons of left over room in my engine bay.

Where can I get a kit, fully set up (not the remote mounted shit though, friend has it on his 5.0 mustang, and it's a dawg, lags like hell), and approx. what's the cost? Also, found a guy on CL selling his wrecked SVT Focus for $1800. 40K miles. Will this set up mount up in the ZX2? Cause I would absolutely LOVE to have a 6-speed tranny. Just wondering if anyone has thought of that, or seen it done, cause I can get this one for a hell of a deal.

ZX2Fast
08-27-2008, 06:57 AM
If you aren't good at welding and can't go without the car for a year, forget the MTX75 swap out of that Focus.

Gude sells a kit but they have a bad habit of blowing engines up because of thier wastegate design boost creeping. It is a good enough kit if you install an external wastegate. I'm not sure if Focus-power still sells the ZX2 kit but they want waaaay too much for it. The cheapest route is to just put your own kit together and use universial parts. Getting the turbo on the car is easy compared to finding someone willing and able to write a tune for it.

99fordzx2
08-27-2008, 07:45 AM

I inherited my S/R with a Gude kit...added a TurboXS blow off internally vented and a Peugeot turbo wastegate actuator after ensuring the wastegate flap on the hotside could open fully without hitting the exhaust side flange(the 5 holer) it opened towards. Simple manual boost controller, T bolt band clamps, valve cover vented to atm, PCV to turbo intake side. Engine has hardened pistons/TotalSeal rings/rods/bolts..SCT custom tune. Have put about 20k miles on her in this configuration setting maximum boost at 18 psi and driving style hitting only 15 psi the majority of the time without problems...good compression numbers when checked, no excessive blowby or oil consumption.

Doesn't the remote turbo setup need some pretty fancy auxillary oil pump to get the turbo oil drainage back to the engine ?

Thanks.... This car has made my 95 mile daily commute via an NC curvy 2 lane the best part of the day and getting close to 30 mpg as an added bonus. I put cheater tires on her, R6 Hoosiers and Kumho V700's(205/45-16) ,which makes her handling abilities above and beyond the occasional WRX, STi, Boxster, et. al. I encounter. Hawk HPS pads take pretty good care of hauling her down from speed. Stock S/R suspension (Tokico/Eibach) albeit recently new struts. Added torque at 18 psi necessitated a Spec II 6 puck/Fidanza flywheel setup...the nearly new Centerforce twin friction started to slip in 4th/5th after a month. After 20K miles, had to replace the driver's side axle..outboard CV more so than inner joint was clicking pretty bad. 21mm RSB and lower psi in rear tires gives me a pretty neutral side step in corners only occurring at double the usual corner speed or with slippery pavement. Really easy to drive this route quickly without excessive drama.....I got a little carried away once with a WRX (probably modded by its performance) behind me...slowed up when the young guy/passenger looked like they were going to wreck trying to keep up.

I spilled coolant on it, let it sit and it ruined the finish. Yeah I was pissed.

Never used it. I just had it on there because I had the kit.

So you dyno'd out at 302hp, but never used nitrous? Werent you ever tempted to see what it could do? With the imternals you had couldnt you have pushed it to about 360hp?

Not really. I could have made more power but it wouldn't put it to the ground so why risk it?
For example Psychotuner made 350whp but breaks shit all the time and when he went to the track, he only ran a 14.1. Whats the point?

Bragging rights? lol At least you couldve dyno'd with the nitrous to see what numbers you couldve had with it. Idve been realy curious.

I'd rather keep my engine together then have bragging rights.

I'll tell you what. Send me $2300 to rebuild my motor, and I'll spray a 200 shot on it on the dyno, on 22 psi.

Right,

#1 I doubt my car is even close to 350 whp, I made the mistake of having a guy street tune it, We didnt get to finish the tune so its an unfinished tune
#2 that beaing said I datalogged my car and it was doing 10 Degresss of timing with a rev limit of only 6500 rpms, I cannot figure out whats the deal with fuel cut so MSD rev limit is at 6500.
#3 im on shitty street tires/stock diff, I just spin and i was afraid of launching the car and breaking something
#4 I did a 3.2 60 foot of the 14.0 run that is SUPER shitty!

So the car isnt tuned properly, I need to work on launching, in which I finially did launch the car at like 2500 rpms and guess what I snapped an axle......

My car is def capable of LOW 12's if I can hook and launch and get a better 60' ! But I wont talk shit until I have done so, stay tuned is all I have to say....

Dyno numbers are nothing to brag about really. The real test of a good setup is the 1/4 mile. Psychotuner was also claiming to be the fastest ZX2 because he had high dyno numbers but he has yet to beat a time I ran years ago on a Super 60 @ 6psi. Dyno numbers mean nothing really.

How about you build an engine, turbo set up, and spray it on the dyno if you want bragging rights? Be curious with your own money.

I'm not talking shit, just pointing out a fact. Dyno numbers really don't mean much.

I'd like to see that actually. 500 hp anyone? (for a couple seconds anyway)

ok this may be a stupid question but is it posible to put motor oil in the power steering pump and use that to oil the turbo if i have a manual steering rack and thats all the pump would be supling?

You would need an oil bypass valve, some are simple some are complicated. It basically acts as a wastegate would to limit the oil pressure, the PSP's impeller is directly tied to the crankshaft so the faster the RPM the higher the oil pressure, this would negate that effect to a set pressure.

I am actually using a PS pump (from a Zx2) to lube my turbo on my turbine project.
