My parents got it and it isn't any faster than our old internet service which I forgot what it was but it wasn't anything special. My internet connection will frequently slow down to a crawl, and it will randomly lose connection. Sometimes it takes a minute to reconnect sometimes hours. I connect with a laptop with a wireless connection.
Does anyone else have Verizon Fios? If so do you hate it?

What happened to fiber optics being the rise of the future? I know a lot of VOD folks were saying with the rise of fiber optics would be the downfall of Blu-ray (and other disc formats). Too bad fiber optics haven't sped anything up...

how did anyone say fiber optics would be the downfall of blu-ray when fiber optics have been around for a good amount of time and blu-ray is relatively new? also, these two items are not similar. could you help and explain what you mean?

Digital downloads. People think that they will be able to download 15 gigs worth of video and audio in seconds. Fios was supposed to be a part of the solution to getting downloads up to par with bandwidth requirements. Looks like it's not going too well...

Since the complete failure of HD DVD, people have been looking for an alternative to Blu-ray. The rising popularity of digital downloads has people thinking it will replaced the disc medium. It will certainly do well, but I don't know about taking over.

I switched to digital downloads, as I can cram my hdd full of movies and it takes up almost no room considering there are no menus or special features which I don't like anyways, my 1 hdd equals 100 - 10 gig movies which amounts to the space of 2 bluray movie cases.

A cell phone company?? WTF you smoking? Verizon is a regular phone company and got into the cell phone game after the technology came out. My dad started working at GTE then they merged with ... MCI(?) and became Verizon. Landline service around here is all Verizon. As far as FIOS, we would have it if we could get it, but since our phone service comes all the way out of Poe, they'll probably never run fiber out to us (let's just put it this way, we have over 8 miles of copper between our house and the switch; No DSL, no fiber, no nothing). And I've never heard anyone around here complain about FIOS. Maybe where ever you guys are the lines are just screwed up.
Ha - the only complaints about FIOS out here were the people trying to get hired as the contractors to run the fiber couldn't pass the math test required to become a contractor! Hahahaha.

guess im not up on the phone industry. oh well, i guess it helps you when your dad is in it though, so you know the insides.
I dont think we'll see a switch to all digital downloading anytime soon. that seems a little farfetched to me
