You really should not be suprised by any means.

Si isn't rice.

An Si with a shitload of stickers, a wing, and a fart can... that's rice.

Si in general is a good setup.

Wrong, look up the numbers, stock for stock/mod for mod, it will be based on the driver.

Now, the 07+ Si will just pull on you from the start and won't stop.

Compare - Keep in mind the VSA (Vehicle Stability/Traction Control) didn't start screwing with things until 07 and that the 'official' numbers below are SAE adjusted

06+ Civic Si

Displacement : 1998 cc
Compression : 11.0:1
Power: 197 bhp (147 kW) @ 7800 rpm (sae NET Rev 8/04)
Torque: 139 ft·lbf (189 N·m) @ 6200 rpm (sae NET Rev 8/04)
Redline: 8200 rpm
VTEC Engagement: 5800 RPM

From Wiki:

1998-2003 2.0 L (1989 cc) Zetec, DOHC I4, 130 hp (97 kW) @ 5750 rpm, 127 ft·lbf (172 Nm) @ 4250 rpm, redline 6500 rpm ZX2

1999-2000 2.0 L (1989 cc) Zetec, DOHC I4, 143 hp (107 kW), 146 ft·lbf (198 Nm) ZX2 S/R

not true, the newer SI Hatch sucks monkey dick. I raced an 03 from a dig and he wasn't happy.

you mean 06+ Si and no, they do not pull you from the start. I raced my buddies 06 Si and I pulled almost a car length in 1st but after 2nd it's over. We both launched the same to.

when my car was stock (minus the K&N filter) in '02...i beat a brand new (at the time) '03 Si...honestly i wasn't impressed. my brother has an '03 now...with the same basic mods as i do (we're both fully modded to STS specs)...and he can't hang with me for shit.

The new Si's are amazing. They don't feel good when you first floor them but once you shift into the next gear you really feel the hp.

you cant feel shit in the new Si. Trust me, my friends Si is almost full bolt on and I drove it and wasn't impressed. It gets there fast but the lack of torque does not put you in your seat. He drove my car and said it feels faster than his even tho we have raced and he beat me by a couple cars.

The new Si's don't even have a real tuning option.. Hondata keeps dickin' around on getting out a K-Pro equiv..

I've got a 08 Si, it would easily beat my modded ZX2 (intake, udp, chip). The ZX2 with mods felt torquier though. With the Si if I've not up high enough it's like waiting sometimes, but when it kicks in it'll pull pretty good.

11:1 the zx2 and get the high rpm cam specs the Si's have and the Escort will be faster. Although there will be some rough idleing but you can bump that up with SCT so it idles smoother at a higher rpm. Spec for Spec if they matched the Escort is wayyyy faster. The new Si's are running 15.1-15.6 at the track according to my friend who went there with his 12 second daily driver Nova. 200HP in a ZX2 your looking at high 13's or mid 14's if you suck at launching. Power per Pound FTW.

I just did a google search "2008 Civic Si 1/4 Mile" and there is a YouTube video in the first few results showing 15.4 WITH MODS lol!

How many ZX2's run 17's at the track stock, or even 16's, when some drivers can get 15.8's out of them stock. There's lots of shitty drivers out there.

The ZX2 weighs a lot less than the Civic, it's not as safe a platform (doesn't have near as many airbags), doesn't come with a power moonroof, 7-speaker system with sub, ABS, VSA, electric steering, etc etc.

I'm too tired now to do your homework for you. Go to 8thcivic.com and look around, or go to youtube and look for vids, there are a couple of guys running 14.1's, and more of people running everywhere in the 14's. And yes we have people running 15's, they suck at driving.

I/H/E on the Si is getting good drivers into the 13's. Of course there are still bad drivers with I/H/E that run low 15's, just like there are ZX2's with full bolt ons that can't break into the 15's.

The OP shouldn't feel bad that he lost to a faster car.

Lets not forget that actually GETTING the Zx2 to 200hp, even at the crank, is no easy feat..

Don't automatically jump into the stereotypes.. Just because its a Honda means its Rice... It's got to have the Turbonator first!

But really.. The Engine in the 06+ SI's look to be a DECENT platform to build on.. Especially once they get some real tuning available. We don't have anything even close to SCT or what it can provide, yet they have multiple Turbo and SC kits for an engine that 11:1 Compression.. I mean... Really.. I loved the Zx2.. I loved the Zetec.. But I think it would completely shit itself even at low PSI at that compression..

I'm certainoy not going to turn into one of those that gets a new car and touts it as the end-all to be all.. But really.. As a platform, its nice..

phosphite
07-17-2008, 06:50 PM
There's some turbo kits on the go at about 8psi, at least one...There's a 500WHP one right now I know of, but that's a custom tune to let it run more boost. All on stock internals.

The Zetec was a good engine and takes boost well as long as you upgrade the internals, and the ZX2 a light nice little car. The only problem is the tranny, but you can put a MS3 LSD in there to help with it or do a lot of work and swap in the Focus tranny. You can have a fast ZX2 but it's a bit of work, money, and time. They make good daily drivers though and even stock hold their own against most N/A 4 bangers...just not all! :D

Yeah, I wouldn't feel bad about the loss. Once the Vtack kicks in, the SIs actually get some power down, but until then, they are garbage. It's not really a faster car than a Z until then. So it really depends on what gear you raced him up to.

I had a 2002 R/T Neon (the 150HP ones) with bolt-ons and I smoked a 1998 SI hatch with intake and fartcan but I think back then the SIs only had 160HP?

HOW THE FUCK DID YOU DO THIS CAUSE THEY NEVER MADE 1998 CIVIC SI'S.. NOT HATCHBACKS AND NOT COUPES IF YOU BEAT A 1998 HATCH IT WAS A SOHC AND PROLLY NON V-TEC. even with vtech the sohc makes nowhere near 150hp to the ground.. everyone always rips on hondas cause they hear what someone else says get some info and some true facts before you post.

1992-1995 there are hatchback civic si's SOCH V-tech
1999-2000 there are coupe si's Dohc v-tech
then came the ep3's (hatchbacks) starting in 2002
and then the new 2006 + si (coupes and 4doors)

Eat shit. Sorry I didn't get out of my car to investigate his registration sticker. It must have been a 95 hatch then because that's the bodystyle he had. I don't race the Zx2, so I really don't care how fast it is.

This thread fails, I'm sorry but no matter what you say why the hell are we comparing a 1998 to an 2008? I'd hope the car built 10 years later can beat the car built earlier. If not then talk. Also why compare a 08 Si (20k+) to an Escort (14k+). We are talking at least 6k.

Sorry my two cents just tired of this constant Honda > Ford, uh no duh FORD had no intention of making an Escort faster than an Si. And the SR version only added better compression ratios, even that was half assed. Where as Honda AIMED to get as much HP out of the little 1.8s as possible. Its like saying OMG my Toyota Corolla got smoked by a Lambi.

phosphite
07-23-2008, 05:27 AM
The S/R version of the ZX2 had the same 9.6:1 compression ratio as the regular ZX2. It had advanced ignition timing and fuel maps with the ECU that gave it more power. And the ZX2 or S/R accelerated equally throughout the 1/4 with the 99/00 Civic Si, they ran about the same times.

The ZX2 was one of the better cars back in the day, and it's still not bad today. Speaking of Corollas, I think it runs faster than the new Corolla XRS with the 2.4L engine too.

JonsZX2SR
07-24-2008, 03:47 PM
The '03 and similar Si's had the 160 HP base engine from the RSX. An ex-g/f has one, fast but not particularly exciting.

The '07 Civic Si was equipped with the ~197 HP from the discontinued RSX Type S. This is an entirely different animal and fast from the factory.

I love the ep3 body, the US just got screwed again and didn't get the a2 in it. In Europe it a big hit. Because they got the k20a2.

My buddy has a built k20a2 in his ep3, and it's exciting haha.
