'98 ZX2:mellowness65 update 6/18

[mellowness65]

I bought my car in August 2006 as a cheap college car with good economy. At the time it had been previously owned by an elderly couple and was a grocery getter and not much else. It had 35k on it and was in fairly good shape. The options list was small: 14" alloys and atx:mad: I wasn't concerned in the least about modding, but I got a cd player and some vinyl floormats because my stockers were disgusting. I also thought about getting the factory spoiler, thank God I didnt do that

Late fall I joined teamzx2, looked around some, didn't really care about any of it and didn't really become active til early spring. I got 17" rims from a friend, got an iceman from dropt, and visited mac for some leather seats 8)

it should also be noted i drove over a curb(intentionally) and cleared it easily on stock suspension
later on in summer of '07 I got tinted windows, not much else. Fall I bought parts, installed a partial dark charcoal interior from zx2guy, winter 07 I put sr struts and dropzone springs on, didn't get many pics

I'm planning on mtx as my next major project for economy reasons. Right now I want to build it before I put it in, so there won't be mtx repair projects in the future. So far I have the pcm, shifter, and an sr master cylinder so that rear discs(also in the works) will function fully

As for nozzles, go to junkyards and get an assembly that attaches to the wiper arms or get nozzles from a mercedes that go to the underside of the hood. I plan on using mercedes nozzzles this time around.

Thanks, I've never actually taken measurements, I'd guess 2" up front and maybe 1.8" in the rear. Its Dropzone springs and sr struts. The headlights are my first trial/temporary pair while I redo my 98 ones

Well after the disappointment of finding my original lights had black plastic in the turn signals I found a set of chromies at the jy, disassembly completed tonight. With the actual reflector taken out these would be a badass starting point for projectors. Maybe someday...

it's raspy as a mofo, I gotta fix a leak I have at the header to exhaust coupling as well as some rattling issues I'm having. yeah its the one i got from school tim, and i took the pin tops off because i don't have the bottoms and I think the chrome looked gaudy. when i first started the car after i put the header on it started smoking like a mofo so i was like ZOMG. then i realized it smelled like burning hair and was just dust burning off that had come from it sitting in the basement for the past ~1.5 years

worked on the exhaust rattling issues, the little crossmember under the console area kept rattling with the exhaust laying on it. Is it something I should seriously keep? 10mm fasters tell me it's not too important, so it's laying in the garage with some hammer finesse marks should it be needed for some strange reason. pics of it for those who don't know what I'm talking about:

I got my second fiddy yesterday. I was getting it to hurry up the mtx timeframe by circumventing the fastener update that I'd have to do with the other one. It arrived still in plastic, good, I open it, flip it over, FUCK

honestly mellow its not alot that you have to shave off the block. when going to install it, you should put some grease or something on the back of those bolts that stick out (not much). put it on the crank and just spin it over by hand. take it off and wherever there is grease on the block, grind it down (it shouldnt be much at all)....

repeat process as necessary. after finishing with the flywheel bolted down and tightened to spec, turn it by hand and see if it rubs, if it dosnt, your good to go :]

Getting the drums off was fairly simple, I didn't reuse the rear lateral links and the upper bolts had been loosened and greased when I did the drop, the trailing arm bolt is always easy and the front spindle bolt wasn't too bad. Corbz I'm not really looking to grind on the engine, that fiddy that's used has ground bolts and I'm trying to avoid that. I'd rather just have it right and fixed by them

amazing, it's nice to have power above 60, and more power than i used to across the board. I took it up to 105 last night without much effort. Top end is a beautiful thing, something that an atx z doesn't have. Now if only the driver would get better at starting from a stop:elephant:

I won a twm on ebay so that's going in, a MTA4 for the comp, got tails, headlights, inner turns, all I need is a header panel and the front end will be kosher. I'm going to try and salvage the door on the silver parts car, it's header panel was shot when i got it last summer, plus I removed what was left with a hammer:cjw: I'm debating putting rear discs on, but I'm thinking that it may be overkill for a beater, we'll see.

Got this today finally, 1 month and 1 day after winning the ebay auction
Took off the hood and oe cowl and cleaned up everything in the drainage area, the little plastic parts were clogged and there were remnants of salt where the car had been up in Michigan a long ass time ago. The wiper arms were starting to show their age so I have a new coat of black paint drying on them now

update: I got the beater in the lower garage today. I also got tired of calling it "the beater". I couldn't call it "the blue car" or "the 98", and "the automatic" would become incorrect shortly. therefore I have given it a name fitting of it's appearance: terd ferguson

nah terd ferg had a disgusting gray interior. I had initially planned on cleaning it but once the seats and console were out it was soo disgusting. I just quartered the carpet and rolled it up and threw it away. all seats but the driver's seat followed, I kept it just to sit in for the swap. The steering wheel is on its way out too, it was just a base wheel but the foam has deteriorated on it until it's falling off leaving just the metal frame. I'll probably throw in the s/r wheel I have until something else comes along. Tomorrow I'm dropping the auto out, I did everything leading up to that point today. I have a pic of the coolant that came out in all its brown/green opaqueness as well as a pic of the chunks of metal on the atx drain plug

I got the radiator out and a few small things on terd tonight. then I loosened the exhaust mani bolts and sheered off the one closest to the ps pump-I think it was already cracked internally, I barely put the socket on it and it fell off. fml

terd- all atx stuff out, dowel pins and spacers installed along with the cps with proper housing and flywheel. if i wasnt packing for school I'd be doing more
