Ok well I have been thinking seriously the last week about what i'm going to do.. I want a fast car.. however i can't afford $300 dollar/month insurance (i'm 17) So I think i'm going to spend some hard time and money on my zx2.

My questions!! I have around $200 dollars right now.. I was wondering what you guys think would be a good mod to start with. I'm not a real good with cars, but i'm enthusiastic to learn. If one of you could point me in a direction with some ideas.. Would be greatly appreciated.!!! thanks

Go to parts for sale and find a thread by Powder start with his UDP and belt. Try to find a decent intake or look up the keeman mod. Unplug the knock sensor. This is just for starters you would have blown close to $100 at this point, but its a good start. Above all though read and understand this (http://teamzx2.com/showthread.php?t=129) thread.

I'll sell my Hotshot Intake System with the 90 degree cold air elbow upgrade and brand new HKS filter (swapping my current filter over to the new intake system and getting rid of the new HKS filter) for $100 shipped to your house, they go for around $220 new +$50 for the elbow upgrade. PM me if your interested.

If money is a problem, go with a modified stock intake. They work great on a stock engine.
An underdrive pulley is great value [HP] for the $.
Unplug your knock sensor.
Gt a straight through free flowing muffler - get as big as you can so it won't sound like pee and poo. You don;t have to spend $200 on a muffler.
And although not exciting, make sure all the normal tune up and maintenance items are perfect. Especially all the vacuum lines.
Another wonderful mod is a larger 19mm [3/4"] sway bar. It really makes the car feel better and flatter. Ask anybody - it should have been stock.

Look between the runners on the intake manifold. There will be a Green Plug on the block. That is the knock sensor which has nothing to do with the governer. I personally reached up underneath the car to unplug it, but some anorexics and women can get it from the topside.

ZX2s don't get fast for cheap man. They can be decent, but they are still pretty slow.

careful what cheapo mods you do like the knock sensor, you can damage your engine.

Knock sensors won't hurt the engine man. I'm in Louisiana where the temps get hot. I'm running no knock sensor, and the IAT resistor mod. So I have more timing than a stock GRSO (I know, there is like no timing on that code) and run the cheapest gas I can get. Never had a problem with knock.
