Who is running 205/55/15's and what air pressure do you run your tires at?

haha, again i have an answer for you. i ran the stock recomendations, 32 front, 36 rear... at least i believe thats the stock recommendation

You can't go wrong with 32 cold.
You can up it a bit for a bit better rolling resistance for better gas mileage.

My door jams say 35 front 35 back... So i put 36 in the front and back a few weeks ago, but i checked my tire pressure today and it was like 39 in all of them? How did my tire pressure increase?

when the weather warms up, things (like air) expand. example, blow up a balloon tie it and put it in the freezer, an hour later (maybe less) it'll be small. leave it out of the freezer for an hour and it'll be back to normal size.

I run mine at 35 psi. as is posted on the SR door jamb.
Warmer tempertures will increase pressure. For every 10* ambient pressure increases 1 psi. acording to The Tire Rack.
Driving on the road will increase the pressure also. Even when Ice racing the fronts will build up 3 psi.

why does the s/r list a different tire pressure than stock zx2s?
Robend
04-20-2008, 06:11 PM
because they have 16" rims with bigger tires

at least the daisies

They're 15" wheels not 16

hmm, i thought the daisies were 16's... even still, they have a wider tire on them. tire pressure is all preference. just dont inflate to the pressure listed on the tire ... that number is a maximum. it wont blow up on you, but you dont need that much air in there. i would suggest 32-34 in the front, and 34-36 in the rear.

The SR wheels are 5.5" same as stock. The SR came with high performance Goodyear F1's which caused the change in suggested pressures.

i do 35 all around on the street...and 40/35 at the track....when i have a good guage, that is.

why more in the front at the track?

it helps the car rotate. when i want the ass end to slide out, i lift up a bit on the throttle...to get a bit of understeer, i push it harder. i can usually control the pitch of the car with the adjustment of the throttle, which helps me maintain as much momentum as possible.

ohhh, auto x. on a straight track though you wanna just run stock pressure right?

it depends on the tire i think. for drag racing i think you want lower front pressure for the most traction.

Some of the national autox people in stock class run the opposite. Higher in the rear,as much as 55 psi. More pressure increases the effective spring rate which will loosen the car up. With my set up on my SR I usually run 2-3 psi. more in the rear.
I agree with zxtwou2. You actually can steer the car with the throttle. I find this very handy on track days. If the car is running a little wide, I lift a little and it tucks in. One thing I found, Don't brake while turning.

Doesn't it say on the tires what you want to run? For stock tires you follow the door jam thing, but if you have high performance tires, you should run them at the PSI listed on the tire.

And watch out for low pressures with low profile tires.
Better high than low.

Never run any tire at the pressure listed on the tire.

I used to do that all the time lol. I know better now. Now I usually keep it around 35 in the front, 38 in the rear.

Should be in the handling section. ;)

why more in the front at the track?
Also since you are cornering WAY harder than you do on the street. It's better to keep the pressure up a bit so you are riding on the tread instead of the sidewalls of the tire.
I run 40 all around at the track, and 35 all around on the street. (On aftermarket 16" rims)

For all tires, the ballpark pressure is 35 with maybe 3 psi either way. For autox and race track, 40+ is usually used. Drag racing may take different pressures, don't go too soft.
For DOT "R" tires such as theHoosier R6 the hot pressure is 35-38 psi.
