how can we adjust our odometer? i need a new guage cluster, and i'd like to roll the new cluster to 85k..where i'm at now. i'd hate to get a cluster with like 180k when i only have 85k. on the cluster i have now, i tested to see if i could do it by flipping the numbers by hand, and you can...but it was right after that the speedo would shoot from 20mph to 90mph when i was doing 40. then it just died. the speedo doesn't work and the odometer doesn't work...so i think i messed it up and need a completely new one.

i would just go get a ceter section of the cluster. AND take the needle off, There are 3 screws on the back(be VERY VERY careful with the plastic) take those off which will expose the face and then you should be able to roll it. Tinker with it and depending on mechanical ablity take it all apart. i think thats how i did mine but done qoute me, I did this like 6 months ago(with the actually rolling part. i am positive about take it apart

Back in the day it was a problem that some shady used car salesmen would turn the ODO back a lot, effectively "lowering" the miles on the used cars they were selling.
Newer technology (from like the 80's - present) doesn't allow you to roll the numbers back w/o killing the ODO IIRC. You may be able to go forward, but I am not sure if that will work either.

Nope you can still do it. i did it on mine.... Its the ones with with the digital ones that are tricky. Pretty much no way in changing those

wouldn't rolling the device back like you said do the same thing as rolling the numbers from the front...or is there another thing you rolled...like a gear or something?
so pretty much because i moved the 1 mile place forward one, then back one again..i destroyed my speedo?

There are professional shops that can set your ODO and recertify it. This is especially important if you EVER want to legally sell the car.. Remember, ODO Tampering is a felony.. Look in your local Yellow Pages..
