so i have a buddy who owns his 2003 zx2 and hes putting a turbo system on it but he come to me the other day and want to supercharge it at the same time is this even possible to do both setups at one and hes wantting to run it like this so he has no turbo leg or spool lose.
run the supercharger threw 1st gear then when he shifts to second the sytem changes over to the already spooled turbo
is this even possible on a completly built engine

To be honest that sounds dumb. It would be a waste of money to try something like that and be about useless. Though if you friend really wants to and has enough money to throw away on it, by all means go for it.

It is also ok to admit that it's really your zx2 and not your friends, and that it's really your idea.

it would make since maybe if the car was built to rev higher like 9.5-10k and had a sc for low end and a big turbo for high end.
but unless he has to go fast constantly and wants to burn loads and loads of gas from always being in boost and has about 10 grand laying around for the sc and the tunes and the window switch or however hes gonna have it be able to switch from sc to tc at a specific rpm and a bigger turbo and money to rebuild the head, bottom end, and oil pump for revs that high its not worth it

It's not worth the time and effort. Nitrous is a great way to combat boost lag.
However. If he really wanted he could fabricate a custom shaft for at turbo which would have to allow the 'exhaust' side to be mounted to a custom made bracket. Pull the turbine off, replace the shaft, hook it up to the bracket which would allow for a pulley to be attached. Then you would have to look into a way to allow this ghetto supercharger to stop working when the turbo hits boost.
This has been done lots of times, if you search around I'm sure you'll find a better method then what I described.
I saw on at "Import Wars", a Toyota dominated event.

My question with this is why have the supercharger sooo massive, seems like it almost defeats the purpose of having the turbo.

Of all the SCs you would use, a centrifugal is not one I would do on a dual charged setup. They have the same characteristics; longer time until full boost is reached, and lower intake temps.
To be honest, it's really not worth it on a ZX2. You would have to spend well over $8,000 just on the super and turbo. Not to mention internals.
Tell your friend to do his research. A properly sized turbo is going to give you full boost pretty early, and carry you all the way to redline.

Then why is your screen name "Blue Zx2"?
It's possible, but not worth it. Like allready said before, one properly sized turbo will get the job done just as good. A supercharger will just get in the way and add heat to the charge.

I saw it done on a Chevy Cobalt at HIN: Philly last year. But that one came stock with a supercharger as well. You also have to remember that superchargers haven't exactly had the best of luck with these cars over the years as well. I agree with said earlier, if he wants the low end power boost, and a good turbo boost, have a Nitrous system with a window switch to handle the lower RPM's until the turbo spools. That or just go with a turbo by itself. SC really not worth it IMO.

Right now I'm in San Angelo, TX; but I just came from a ship from Norfolk, VA. My ship had gone up to Philly last year for Military Apreciation Week (and we went to NYC the following week for Fleet Week), and they just happened to have HIN at the same time, so got some tickets to the show (The models loved my whites too :supernana:)
