View Full Version : Bass Problem

So I have a continuing problem with my bass going in and out. Sometimes it just goes on and off, other times it fades in & out. I first thought it might be my pre-outs on my Pioneer HU. I bought a new one and I am still having this problem. I have checked my power line and grounds, they see to be fine (the power light on the amp stays on even when I have no bass). I have also replaced the RCA lines & it still does the same thing. I suppose that now just leaves the amp. As I metioned it seems to be on & have power even when my bass goes out. Short of swapping in another amp, is there any way I can test it to see if it is having a problem? It has become very frustrating as the bass seems to be off far more than it is on.

Amp overheating?
Amp is not overheating. I can have the car off for hours and still no base when i start it. Then it might come on for a few seconds or minutes and go out again and repeat.
I am running a MTX 6500D amp with two 12" eclipse aluminum SCV subs. I was able to take some speaker wire, attach it to one of my subs and connect to my 4 channel amp (set it to low) and got sound out of the sub, while the other sub still connected to the MTX 6500D had no sound. So now I am pretty sure the amp is my problem. Has anyone else run into a situation like this?

You've probably overheated the amp to the max, and the saudering(Sp) might be busted off on the brackets where you plug the speaker wires into. Open your amp, look at it, smell it, etc. Most likely the amp.

I would suggest to try another deck and see if the rca's on the deck are bad then work your way from there.

Thanks, I have done that and the subs have the same issue. I think I am going to have to find another amp to test and se if it is indeed the amp. Pretty much the amp is the only component that is not either new or replaced by a test part.
