hey serious, i just traded in my ZX2 for an '04 infiniti G35 sedan (permium 6.1 Bose sound system... the 2 rears seem to be missing, unless they're just tweeters, but the quality really sux... the CD player is great, but it doesn't play MP3's, and the stereo isn't very loud at ALL...
i'd like to get all 6 speakers working again, replacing them if i have to, but first, i want a new deck... unfortunately, it seems the dash kit for this car is like $150-$200, and there only seems to be one brand for this...
can you assist me?
I need a stereo installation kit, and a good headunit (i WOULD like a DVD unit with navigation, but not entirely necessary... I'd like one with MP3/AAC, Bluetooth OR USB, and subwoofer out...) also, I bought an alarm from you off the old site and never installed it... it was the $99 one you recommended all the time, with remote start, and auxilary options... would this work with the infiniti? I might just install it :D

Nice car!!!
Your speakers are:
Front Speaker 6.5" with 3" depth
Front Tweeter 1" with 1" depth
Rear Speaker 6.5" with 6" depth
Rear Sub 8" with 4" depth
The shocker: I can get the kit, but at a very minimum cost of $175!! I was in shock.
For the radio, I like:
Valor DTS603W: $420
JVC KW-AVX810: $510
Panasonic CQVD6505U: $600
Clarion MAX675VD: $620
with navigation
Pioneer AVICD3: $760
JVC KW-NX7000: $895

thank you SeRious, you're always awesome with the quick replies and i hope business is treatin ya well..
that kit i'll take it will fit the screen perfectly well...
a question for advice though, I've been finishing the final touches on my server computer, and had to scrap the carputer... for about the same cost as the JVC KW-NX7000, i can create a new carputer (sans screen) but it'll be a device I can tailor to my specific desires... would you recommend this? it's a project i really wanted to take on with my ZX2, but the feeling in the back of my mind that replacement wasn't far off definitely hampered my willingness to continue the project...
do you think I should do that? i love making computers and i definitely want to see how far my modding capabilities can take me, but the thought of having almost everything i want in one ready-to-go package is very tempting, as well

oh yea, and... that alarm i bought a long time ago (lol).. any idea if it will work with the infiniti? the infiniti already has remote locks and remote trunk :-/ i wanna add an alarm and remote windows/sunroof

I'm always down for "do it yourself" projects. But with you doing the carputer, you are looking at a lot of time and work. Not to mention patience. You will have the interior torn apart for a while. But in the end, once its done it will be worth it.
On the flip side, Infinitys have some pretty tricky electronics. Having a complete package that is plug-n-play is very tempting. No waiting around, not torn out dash for long times, no driving around everyday without tunes, ect. But the choice is yours.
Yes, the alarm will work. Is the one with the 2-way LCD remotes?
RADRaze2KX
07-24-2008, 06:54 PM
in that case, do you have a single din stereo harness? I'm thinking about picking up a XENARC 700IDT from MP3cars.com (http://store.mp3car.com/category_s/61.htm), and i like the thought of an extra storage bay... i admit, i can't fiberglass, so definitely simplicity would be a joy for me...
the alarm IS a 2-way LCD thing, it's the Aftermarket Generation model number AGA2701 "Two-Way LCD Vehicle security system plus remote start"
SeRiousZX2
07-25-2008, 09:33 AM
Yes I have the harness. Its $20 shipped.
That alarm will work fine. If you don't care about the 2 way LCDs, are you willing to make a trade for a more reputable alarm?

I think I need to double check and make sure i'm running the BOSE system... I'm starting to think the project will cost a bit more than I'm comfortable spending at this moment...
let's say i'm comfortable with keeping the factory headunit (for now...) it's manufactured by Clarion, so it's not TOO bad (except radio reception sucks)... but I want to replace the speakers and amplify them with my multi-ch amp... what's the best way to go about doing this? my amp doesn't take low-level inputs, it has to be RCA... is there something to convert from low-level to RCA's without injecting a ton of noise?
this seems to be the most economical solution, if possible, for getting the sound to the level I want (not to mention keeping the steering wheel stereo controls in tact)... i could at least get the speakers replaced and drive them harder, the stock sound in this thing is horrid for blasting.
Also, I assume if there IS a device to convert from low-level to RCA, I can also use the same method to get a signal to my subs? :D
EDIT: if there are devices, I would assume it would be better to buy a harness and splice into it rather than directly into factory wiring :D ? $20 more to avoid screwing something up seems worth it imho, and it would completely disable the factory speakers so i could run new wires from the amps :D
EDIT 2: I don't know what I was thinking... peripheral makes tons of these, and i think PAC might too... can you recommend something? :D
RADRaze2KX
07-25-2008, 02:10 PM
I'm gonna guess you'll recommend the well known Peripherals SVEN4 for converting the outputs to pre-amp...
so with that in mind, and me really tempted to get this ball rolling, what's your best speaker setup for cost/performance ?? I want to crank them on my cadence Z600 4-ch amp =]
EDIT: crap... one thing just hit me... i don't know how they're separating the signal from the woofer and tweeter... in the event that it's a separate crossover i guess i can utilize it... but if it's built into the Bose amp, what's the best solution for driving the woofers and tweeters now? get an inexpensive 2-ch amp? ?? so lost

I'm pretty sure they used inline crossovers for the front stage.
Your best bet is to look for AudioControl processors. They rock!!
http://www.mobileaudiocontrol.com/dept.asp?d_id=17612&l1=17612
Or you can simply add in 2 PAC-SNI-15 or 2 PAC SNI-35s. These will give you the amplifier preouts that you need.
If it were me, I would first try replacing the speakers with some better stuff. See if you like it. If not, we can then move forward with the PAC stuff or you can order the AudioControl stuff and throw an amp into the equation.
Whats your budget for speakers?
RADRaze2KX

the AudioControl processors look sweet, but eventually i WILL replace the OEM radio to get some MP3/Sirius action going, so i don't want anything too complex/expensive right now, just quick and functional hehe... with that in mind, what would you recommend, and what's the difference between the PAC...35 and the PAC...15?
as for the inline crossovers, that means I can re-use them? budget will be around $200 total for fronts and rears, i'm thinking... but it will be about 2 or 3 weeks before i buy anything over $50

are you willing to make a trade for a more reputable alarm?
Yes, but i'm having a problem finding a guide for installing an alarm into this car -_-" know of a good resource? all the forums I've checked that are g35/350z related all say it's a bitch and to just have a professional installer do it :(

For temp. use, just use the PAC line output converters.
The PAC SNI-15 converts the output with a fixed conversion
The PAC SNI-35 allows you to adjust it manually. Like a gain control.
Most factory inline crossovers for tweeters are hard wired in or are resistor looking "bass blockers" wired (soldered) onto the back of them. 99.9% of the time the tweeters are wired parallel with each other. Meaning the tweeters + - are ran to the door speaker. so, if you were to take the door panel off you would probably notice this. So replacing your door speaker would be all that is needed. I would get a nice hard hitting 2 way.
Now, for the alarm. The one that I have is a Code Alarm CA650. Its a higher quality alarm BUT it doesn't have the LCD controlers. If you are willing to trade just let me know and I'll get it out to you.
I can also send you the wireing codes for your car. It tells you where to find which wire and what color it is. Take a look at it and see if you might be able to install it yourself. If not, I highly recommend taking it to a pro. Most alarm places use brands like Code Alarm and useually runs around $100 for install.

ok, so may I get a price quote for the PAC SNI-15's I'll need to add a 4-Ch Amp (powering front components) and mono Amp (powering 2 subs), your recommended speaker setup ("Front Speaker 6.5" with 3" depth /// Front Tweeter 1" with 1" depth /// Rear Speaker 6.5" with 6" depth), RCA's to run from the PAC's to the amps, power/ground cables (colored to distinguish, if possible, and 8 or 4 guage), wiring harness so I can keep the factory cables untouched when i add the PAC's, and cost of the alarm if I trade the old one (still never used)... all + estimated shipping (85225 - Arizona)..
this is much appreciated, and you run this section of the forum so well, i can't imagine how top-notch your business must be doing. Thanks a million

So let me just clarify this before I get you a quote.
You need:
(2) PAC SNI-15
(1) set of 6.5" front speakers
(1) set of 6.5" rear speakers
(3) sets of RCAs
(2) RCA splitters
(1) Dual amplifier install kit
(1) Factory wire harness
(1) Trade alarm
If that is correct, prices are as followed:
(2) PAC SNI-15: $9 each
(1) set of 6.5" front speakers: PowerBass 4XL6592 $44
(1) set of 6.5" rear speakers: PowerBass 2XL6502 $45
(2) sets of RCAs: Raptor NBRCA-15 $5 each
(2) RCA splitters: Raptor NBRCA-Y2 $1 each
(1) Dual amplifier install kit: Raptor PKBL4 (4gauge) $43
(1) Factory wire harness: $15
(1) Trade alarm: FREE
TOTAL: $177 w/o shipping
Because it will be a large box or several boxes and heavy, shipping will be roughly $30.
So grand total would be $207 :beernana:

Numbers in red are asking for attention
(2) PAC SNI-15 (if this is all that's required for 6 RCA outputs - 2 for fronts, 2 for rears, 2 for subs)... i believe i may need a 3rd, unless you recommend something else for subs?
(1) set of 6.5" front speakers (woofer + tweeter, sorry i didn't specify earlier... looks like the 4XL is top of the line though, even better than 3XL components?)
(1) set of 6.5" rear speakers (my rear speakers are located in the rear doors... not sure if you saw i had a sedan or not :-/ there are cutouts in the rear panel, but nothing there... further into it, i don't think I have bose :( which is probably a good thing, so I can just run all new cables :D ) would you recommend the 4XL's into the rear doors instead?
(3) sets of RCAs (yes)
(2) RCA splitters (?? not sure what i'll need the splitters for ?? maybe the subwoofer amp ?? trying to keep directional sound)
(1) Dual amplifier install kit (correct, wiring 2 amps)
(1) Factory wire harness (correct, to spare the existing wiring from splicing/tapping)
(1) Trade alarm (YAY!)
....
other than that, this looks great! I wasn't expecting such low prices on the speakers! If I had a budget of $300 + shipping, would you still recommend the same setup (after looking at the above clarification)??
Also, out of curiosity, the Raptor packaging looks familiar... are they the same company that used to be "Tsunami" before that tsunami hit india back in 2004?
I have money for the majority of that stuff there :) so let me know what changes you would make and I'm sold!

one more question... I'm thinking about buying 4080 subwoofer enclosures for my subs (to keep trunk space), but i don't think the subs will fit (0.2" too shallow of a mounting depth)... that, and they're $365 each, and i want TWO so i can have both of my subs in there...
http://www.4080enclosures.com/shop4080/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=3
That seems rather ridiculous... so with that in mind, would you be able to build me a custom enclosure for the same placement/location of the 4080, or can you recommend someone or some site that can? also, I currently have 2 12" alpine type-R's, if I went with the 4080 enclosure, would you recommend a different set of 12" subs (or a way to lessen the mounting depth required)? (currently powered by a Cadence Ultra Z1500CF amp)
And (sorry... lots of questions i just realized), could you recommend a place for, or build me, an amp rack for the spare tire well? I want to make this car as clean as possible :D
thanks SeRious!

- You only need 2 converters. One is for the mids/highs and the other for the subs. That is what the 1 male/2 female rca splitters are for. The splitters will split it into a 4 channel converter. Works fine. Done it hundreds of time. :wiz:
- Currently the 4XLs are just a midbass driver. No tweeter or crossover. I was under the assumption that you were going to keep the stock tweeter and just replace the 6.5 speaker. In that case, the 3XL6C component set is $80.
- The 2XL6502 are just 6.5" 2 way speakers for the rear doors. They are perfect for rear doors. The 4XLs again are just midbass drivers. You could put these in the rear doors but I don't recommend it at all. You want all your mids up in front, not behind you.
- RCA splitters explained above.
Raptor and Tsunami are both owned by Metra. So the packaging looks similar.
Making and shipping sub enclosures and or amp racks can be rather expensive. Even if I was to recommend a place near you, thats just about what you would pay for a custom enclosure. The only other options I see is either building one yourself or getting a different style box. Bassforms offer some very nice and clean options. But they too are pricey. Many times you can find some really, really good deals off ebay on fiberglass boxes.
Another option is to build a false wall. Man if you lived close to me we could knok that out in a weekend....
False walls are sooooo easy to do and provide a very clean and simple look but look amazing.
Not being an Alpine guy, I could always recommend other subs. What would your budget be on those?

looks like you're up early :D thanks for the quick reply
so total cost would be $213 + shipping :) niiiiiice
could you explain to me a little bit more about the double-din kit you can get for $175? I was looking around and saw that some kits actually have inserts to use the bottom half as an extra storage space, so they can be utilized as a single-din, as well... would this be possible with yours? (i saw some of the metra kits can do this, but wasn't extremely fond of the cheap button look on them)
The reason I ask this is because, thinking back to the Z, i changed the stock speakers first to some increase in quality, but the biggest difference came when i put in the new head unit, and an even bigger difference when i put on the amps...
Also, after having spent like 6 hours on the road friday and saturday, I'm thinking instead of speakers first, i could get a single-din radio from you instead with the dash kit, RCA's, amp kit FIRST... then upgrade speakers later... $175 budget for new head unit, I'm gonna wind up selling it after i build the carputer... MP3/AAC/USB/Bluetooth/Remote control, and of course front/frear/sub out...
The existing clarion radio's reception is horrid, and the features and display are so limited, i definitely need a replacement... that and I'm running out of CD's burning in WAV format -_-"
sorry for the sudden change, but i had a lot of driving time in the car over the weekend and a very horrid music experience :(

Four Quick Questions:
#1: Does this list look complete (not including the new front components/rear speakers, which I'll purchase additionally later)?
#2: Have the prices fluxuated any? :D
#3: looks like the Raptor Dual amp install kit (PKBL4) comes with a set of RCA's ... could I cut $5 and run those to my sub amp? or would you recommend the $5 investment?
#4: Full control for iPod (when used with IPC40 Integration Cable, sold separately) that's the BOSS Integration cable... do you have this, and how much additional for it?

In that case, the 3XL6C component set is $80." Would it be advisable to run the 4XLs in the rear instead of the 2XL6502? Or is the 2XL6502 the best that will fit into the doors?
#3: does the 3XL6C Component set come with crossovers?
#4: Any idea when this stuff I just ordered will be shipped? :D
Thanks man :D I can't wait!! BASSSS :D

I will let you know when the money crosses over in PayPal. Sometimes it takes a few days to hit the business account.
1. A 1 Farad capacitor couldn't hurt in a high wattage system. It can actually take some stress off other electronics. I have several that I can offer. PowerBass actually makes nice ones. I have a 1.2 Farad diggital one by them for $45.
2. You could run the 4XLs in the back but that is bad for sound quality. Typically you want most of your mids up front. Besides, your rear passangers wouldn't have any vocals.
3. The 3XL6C have been replaced with 3XL60C. They come with a 12 dB HP/LP crossover network.
4. Once the money clears from Paypal, I take it and go and pick it up from the warehouse. You are looking at it being shipped next week sometime. Paypal usually takes 3-4 business days.
Also, will you need a receipt for insurance purposes. Due to me offering "speacial" prices to TeamZX2 members, I can send a receipt with the real retail prices. Then if your stuff is stolen, you have a receipt with prices and part numbers.

awesome, thanks for the updated info :) lookin forward to it
oh and i'll be buying a cap from you next week then

Change of plans... Instead of a cap, I'm interested in some BADASS subs, 10" (i know :-/ but the falsewall box I want only fits 10's because i have a full sized spare and they raised the flooring by like 1.75" :( ) anyway, LOUD, high quality subs... as good or better than my 2 alpine type-r 12's... LOUD :D budget, quote me some badass subs and i'll make my budget fit... try to keep TWO of them under $400 + shipping

Volume per chamber - 0.80ft^3
Mounting Depth - 8.5"
Sealed

bump for box size specs =]
RADRaze2KX
09-24-2008, 07:31 AM
bump again lol...
new question, too...
(1) set of 6.5" front component set: 3XL6C $80
(1) set of 6.5" rear speakers: PowerBass 2XL6502 $45
still recommending these?
and would you recommend 2 x 10's in the sealed zenclosure (.8 ft of airspace per chamber) or would you recommend i try to fit 1 or 2 subs into a Deathbox (10 or 12")??
I get paid weekly is why I'm asking and I'm contemplating either selling my subs and box, or just the box... I looked at the powerbass subs and they look really efficient, but require a ton of airspace... what's your recommendation? I wanna get LOUD =]

First sorry for the late reply. My grandmother finally passed (93 years old) and I had to go to Tennessee.
I do still recommend the Powerbass speakers. I will be very happy with them. They have the best "bang for buck".
Powerbass subs at least the 2XL series only require a .5 cuft airspace. So with your .8 you are right where it needs to be. They are only $95 each!!!
A death box can get LOUD. For 1 12" sub it would be about the same as the the dual box you were getting. I actually have all the specs on how to build the Death Box. I have built several before. The last one I put a $12 Pyle sub in it and it sound surprisingly really good. The hardest thing about the Death Box is the labor or building it and tuning it. Tuning it requires it to be taken in and out of the car several times, take off a panel, move the chamber, place panel back on, place in car, wire up, ect ect.

christ dude i'm not impatient but i was growing concerned about ya. Sorry to hear about your grandmother, my grandfather passed over the summer so I can definitely relate... welcome back, tho.
The efficiency is a lot higher on these than on the Alpine Type-R's so I guess I'll look into getting 2 deathboxes (or should I get 1 and load them in an isobaric setup?) then I'll get 2 of these... (yes, i wanna be that friggin loud)...
I'm gonna wait on buying anything else for about 3 weeks, but when I get to the 3rd week, I'll hopefully be completing my audio system... what do you recommend though?
the 2 powerbass subs in a deathbox (two deathboxes) for the biggest boom?
Could you preassemble me a deathbox for a 12" and calculate shipping + labor (if it would rival decware's price of $220) ?
EDIT: the price on their site is $250 for a preassembled 10" ... ugh, I think I'd rather just try the plans and build it myself, but it'd be my first box... I'm good with carpentry work, but is it really that hard to assemble?

2 seperate death boxes will take up tons of space. These things are 32" long each. 13" tall and wide. Not only that, you would have to be perfect on tuning them both exactly the same. I have seen success with both single sub applications and dual applications. I never really noticed a HUGE difference with two in a box. For my taste, I was very happy with one.
To build a death box and ship it, I would probably charge about $150, due to the labor, shipping and price of 3/4 MDF now.

......... F ME IN THE BUM DUDE THAT'S CHEAP! I'll have you build one for me, I'll tune it in the car myself with one of those 2XL subs, but I'll let you know when I'll have the money to you... would you start upon receiving payment or upon my sending it or upon a good faith for when I'd have it for you? I still need to send you my old alarm too lol

I'll start building the box this weekend. The only carpet I have currently is black. Is that ok?
RADRaze2KX

Wow thanks man! I can wait for the standard gray carpet, I'll have payment for you in about 3 weeks (I just got payed today but am paying off some old bills, moving next week + rent)... So take your time, I know it's time consuming to perfect boxes. Any word on the shipping of the other stuffs? :]
EDIT: screw "about three weeks" I'll have it for you in 3 weeks or less.

don't know, but from the short message I got, i know that he:
A.) had access to a computer with internet for a short time
B.) got a message to me
C.) probably has a good reason for not being more active
I always keep C in mind, SeRious is great... the wait sux, but remember, he's busy as hell... between us, his shop, his family... i'm sure he has plenty of good reasons to help us out, but plenty of other reasons that keep him pre-occupied

got it all installed, so far so good... there's a few things about the headunit that have my concerns:
1.) can't skip albums on MP3 discs, it can skip 10 songs at a time either direction, but not an album... not sure if I like this feature or not hehe
EDIT: I'm reading the manual right now, looks like there IS a directory skip, just have to press a few buttons to activate it... it apparently also has song search by title haha awesome... will try this after work, still have the other two concerns below
2.) not a very comprehensive equalizer... can adjust balance/fade/treble/bass, but can't adjust subwoofer other than "woof on/off" and "loud on/off"...
3.) I had bought the iPod interface cable to use, which hooked up perfectly, but nullified my ability to use the bluetooth-phone because there was not a plug for the module that came with the receiver, which is what actually housed the microphone :-/
also, not sure if it's the radio station or the song or the lack of amp-tuning yet, but the bass was hitting strangely on "A milli" by lil wayne when I was driving to work this morning.. i'll investigate this further after work today
other than that, the sound is quite good from the unit for it's price, thanks for the recommendation! i'll play with it for a bit and see if I can adjust...
in the event that I can't, How long can I use this for before you'll no longer take it back for a trade? and could you cross ship (I'd pay for shipping my way, and any price difference of course)...
I'm thinking I may want that sony receiver, because I know the interface in and out, I've had 2 so far and liked them both... not sure yet though, that's why I ask...
SeRious, I'd like to trade my receiver... There's too many things about the Planet Audio that I don't think I'll be able to adjust to after using sony units for the majority of my driving years with that said, is it possible that you could get the "Sony CDX-GT920U", additional iPod interface, and "PAC SWI-PS" so I can retain my steering wheel controls??
Also, I'm interested in the powerbass speakers for fronts and rears, and I want to swap them out before I hook up my multi-channel amplifier... if it's alright with you, I'd like to get the ball rolling on those so I can finish the rest of the upgrade =]
lastly, I put my old box in the car and it's just too big for my liking... because it's so wide, it pushes the subs too far to the back and I'm afraid they'll start hitting the back of the trunk... if you've started the deathbox, please let me know as I'll gladly pay you for it as well... get in touch with me at your earliest convenience either through here or my e-mail address truromeo4juliet at gmail.com thanks.
oh yea and goddamnit serious i think you kept the installation manual for the integration kit! i have no idea what those black things with the holes are for that came with the unit because there was no data sheet with the box :P
Altogether, I'm looking to get:
Sony CDX-GT920U (Receiver) (trade for the Planet Audio please)
Sony XA-110IP iPodŽ Interface Adapter
PAC SWI-PS (Steering Wheel Control Interface Adapter)
set of 6.5" front component set: 3XL6C $80
set of 6.5" rear speakers: PowerBass 2XL6502 $45
12" Deathbox $150
Cross Shipping if possible, or ship me the stereo stuff so I can get it all installed and I'll send you the Planet Audio back the next day ??
Please get back with me on this asap, as I'd really like to get a different receiver >.< Thanks B!

i got all the stuff installed, including my new temporary deck (Pioneer DEH-P7000BT) until I get a carputer setup ready... just need the box and speakers now =] How does power bass compare to Cadence for a component speaker setup?
SeRiousZX2
11-17-2008, 01:24 PM
PowerBass focus is more in the bang than crystal clear clarity. They sound great but if I had to rate clarity, Cadence would get the edge.

11-17-2008, 01:26 PM
any possibility you might be able to get the "ZXC-6KIT" ?? I saw reviews and read that it's absolutely amazing, and I, like you, looooove me some Cadence :P~
otherwise i may have to resort to eGay :(
