Okay after much debate how well the new SI's are I finally was able to match myself up against one last night. Met him at Wendy's as I was passing by and he looks at my ZX2 and and shakes his head in front of his underage girl. I come around and say "so you think your civic will beat my escort?" he goes "pft dont waste my time that car is pathetic". So I whip out a $50 bill and say "is $50 pathetic to you?". He looks at his girl and she tells him to do it. So he starts up his civic which obviously has a fart cannon, don't know much else, and we wait at a green light to go red. Red goes green and we go, I had at least a 2 car jump on him by the time I shifted into second to check my mirror, he pretty much stayed 3 car lengths behind me after 100mph. He hits the brakes and turns away trying to escape losing the $50 he probably didn't have. I let him go and I got away with a laugh at least.
Well i guess thats is a good thing, nice win.
what are your mods ??
Great kill....although the whole betting thing...is frowned upon I do think...or it shouldn't be mentioned..;)

The story sounds made up. If it did happen, good kill, there's lots of bad drivers out there.

I have roughly 138whp and 138wtq (sct, hotshot intake, kami header, 2.5 trubendz system, hi-torque intake cam) I don't have the funds currently to waste on a dyno (last dyno was 135tq 133hp 3 mods ago). The main reason I won was because of my good jump off the line with my phantom grip lsd. Other then that we wouldve been neck and neck. I have taken the ZX2 to 142mph 2 years ago, I dont even know what it can do now, possibly 146mph?
yeah, i'f he would launched better, i think he might have gotten you. Good kill still.

You are turning into everyone else that gets our of a ZX2. Just shut up in these threads.

Just cause you have VTEC doesn't make you god. The car is junk until 6000rpms. I like cars with at least some power around 3000rpms and a strong top end. I dont care if you engine revs out to 9000rpms or whatever, you got beat by a 7000rpm Escort how does that make you feel? I get more MPG racing my Escort to 7000rpms then to 9000rpm in a Civic. I'd rather drive a SVT Focus anyday, at least the power is there at low rpms. Honda needs to think of something creative to increase power at low rpms, then I'll give those cars some credit.

08 Civic Si...VTEC - all the lag, none of the turbo!
'lag' is lame. I enjoy cars with power off the line or at least cars with a smooth powerband. If I were to have 'lag' there better be a monstrous blast of power coming from a spooling turbo, at least 'lag' in a built high rpm n/a car idles high enough so I don't have to wait to climb up to 6000rpm before I feel a g-force. If Honda made HP numbers as high as they do but good torque and consistancy from idle up to 9000rpms I will give them credit. Until then I give Honda's a thumbs down. I drove a TSX home to test out and it was piss slow, in fact I think my piss can accelerate faster. When the higher lift cams set in from the VTEC managment system it felt almost as fast as my ZX2.

The torque band is flat in the Si, it makes 90% of it's max torque at 2.5k, then it's flat all the way. It has plenty enough power to pull until it switches over at 5.8k, and then pulls up until 8.3k. If you're racing, you're into VTEC in 1st almost immediately, unless you suck. My Si doesn't feel as fast as my old ZX2 with a few mods, but with the gearing it would easily beat it. It's not godly by any means, if you're not in the right gear it can feel balls slow, but if you drive it right it will rip.
I don't doubt that a heavily modded ZX2 could beat a stock Si on a street race. A lot of Si drivers leave VSA on which slows the car down a nice bit, and a lot of people suck at driving this car (shifting from 1st to 2nd and keeping in VTEC means you need to shift at about 8.3k). Add in that stock all season tires are terrible tires. But even so, decent drivers easily pull 14.8's stock at the track, and the car keeps pulling well past 100mph. The car also gets around 30MPG pretty easily if you're worried about MPG.
Good kill anyway if it did happen. Like I said, the story just sounds made up and cliche...you went driving by a Wendy's and came up to a guy with his girl just to intentionally start a street race with a random person with an Si, and had to wave a $50 to even get him to race? Even if it's real it sounds a little lame of a story.

why don't you shut up in these threads, what are you contributing besides trying to start a flame war.
OP, nice kill if it happened. If he got a bad start and considering your mods I would believe it. To bad you couldn't get your 50 though. LoL. :beernana:

Sure, the new Si might have a flat torque band but that doesn't really matter when it doesn't really make that much torque to begin with. The car is also considerably heavier then the ZX2 and they don't make max power until about 300 rpm before redline. Yeah, I can see a bolt-on ZX2 taking one down.

About as much as you and everyone else. We're all just saying "Nice kill" so it's not like that is contributing much either.

Flat torque bands matter more than peaky torque bands. 140ft/lbs is decent, but not a lot for a car that averages about 2900LBs; the gearing makes up for the lack of torque though, it winds out very quickly. I don't get why people hate on the VTEC so much, I don't know any other factory N/A 2.0L cars that can get 30mpg and running 14's. Anyway, a fully bolted-on ZX2 would be a good race for an Si, it'd be a drivers race for sure.

The people that hate vtec either don't understand it, or are sooo much of a anti-honda fanboi that they hate on it because it's better than what they have.
Good kill chillin. Your car actually did good at the track last time I remember right. I never get whats so big about the Si. Girl has one at work and she said its piss slow. Thats why its her DD while her mustang is her more fun car.

I am still trying to figure out what you contribute to this forum rather than coming in and just jumping on people. I don't know if you noticed but its a Ford forum not a Honda.

Ok.. I call BS.
I'll be nice and give benefit of the doubt and list some specs:
Horsepower (stock) 130hp @ 5300 rpm
Torque (stock) 135f/p @ 4500 rpm
Compression Ratio 9.6/1
Cylinder Bore 3.339
Crankshaft Stroke 3.465
Connecting Rod Length 5.3618/(97 5.4820)
Valve Diameters (Int/Exh) 1.260/1.100 (2 Int, 2 Exh)
Throttle Body Diameter 55mm
Even being extremely generious, I'll grant you.. 140tq.
The STOCK 06-08 Si comes with 137 tq, 198 hp. Si also comes with a Stock LSD. So.. Lets just assume you both dump the clutch (Si's stage 1 limiter is at 5.5k). Running out first gear gets you to about 19mph @8300rpm. You jump off the line.. ok.. I can see it.. 2nd, 3rd, 4th are all in Vtec 5800+ range for a red-line shift..
he pretty much stayed 3 car lengths behind me after 100mph.
Just not going to happen if its Redline to Redline shifts..
Being perfectly clear.. I've got nothing against the ZxP00.. I owned a Mod'ed and Chipped 00 for 3 years..
I also owned, for a brief time, a Mustang.. Heavy, solid platform, but nothing on a ZxP00..
Now I do own a 06 Si..
I hope you do know chillin did run great at the track. Its all about a drivers race. Put all the spec's up on the boards you want. Ask boss..he beat one two. There are members that have beat them with bolt on's. If one driver is great and one driver sucks and you beat him..you can't claim a defeat..again this isn't need for speed were you can just push restart since you suck at driving.

Looks like you're the one jumping on me, why? Cause I drive a honda now?

Lotus Elise. 1.8 liter I believe and its very low 13's. For $35,000 you can have one with barely any miles on it. It's all about lightweight cars, I love Honda's old platforms that weighed close to 2000lbs. I hate Honda's that now push close to 3000lbs. My ZX2 will curb at 2270lbs. The Acura TSX (pretty much the 4 door civic) with its 2.4L VTEC 201hp rating is the slowest car other then my 1988 Escort Pony that I have driven. Any FWD car weighing over 2500lbs in my opinion should have a V6 or larger in it to make it a decent modable 'race' car.

Oh I agree, new hondas weight a ton.
but my mazda does too, curb is 3200, and runs 14 flat stock :)
I love TSXs, they are pretty! I want the motor though, to put in an eg hatch, hopefully that will be my next build

I went based off this and you own a honda. So put two and two together and it makes like you were bashing the car. Can't tell with the internet.

Bring that ZX2 back to PA & let's see what you do against my basically stock GTI. I've beaten 2 new Si's so far, so we should be even..... The new Si is a driver's race for my VW.
Obviously you beat the driver, not the car. I've seen BONE STOCK new Si coupes go 14.2x @ 99mph down at Cecil County Dragway in Maryland [the same track I went 14.23 @ 99mph with a 2.43 60' in my VW], in the summer heat & humidity. I say 'coupes' plural because more than one has hit a 14.2. I doubt your intake/header/exhaust/SCT/one cam ZX2 will run a 14.2, slicks or not. Sorry to sound harsh, but you beat one bad driver, not one quick Si.
Oh btw, my GTI has a 2.0L [1984cc, same as the Zetec], runs low 14s & gets over 30mpg; the highest so far being 37.1mpg. Not trying to pull a fanboi flag out, but oh well.

I know what I run, and I know it's not 14.2. I never said it was a low 14 second car so obviously you would win if your consistant. My fastest time is 14.7 but average is 14.9 for me, and that was last year. This years mods I am doing 3" Intake with 65MM maf, I don't expect huge gains, realistically maybe 3whp at higher rpms and maybe bring my fastest time down to 14.6. These mods are going to compliment my Ford Racing Throttle Body (65MM) going into the Ford Racing Intake Manifold (2nd revision) port matched to the focus.c-f-m.com stage 3 ported and polished head that will connect to my existing Kami header which will be port matched with crower stage 3 cams. That will be at the end of next year. If I have enough money I will also get eagle rods and 10.5:1 pistons (unsure what brand I want to go with right now). My goal with this escort is to get into the solid 13's and I'm happy with that. I only need $3000, but I am taking my time with it, getting one piece at a time, unless the parts get discontinued then I'll use my credit card and buy it all.

And it all goes back to the fact you beat a quick car with a shitty driver, not a quick car with a competant driver. Good luck on retrieving that 50 bucks.

I dont care about the $50. I would've raced him for free anyway if he wasn't such a duchebag.
