so i Had to drop the transmission and i went to go put it back up today and i got it up to where it will hold it's self but it isn't clicking in and no matter which way i twist or turn it push or pull it it will not go in all the way. and i did use the clutch alignment tool... as well. Any pointers on getting this beast back in i would appreciate.

P.S. At the moment it is not holding it's self i have a jack holding it up.

i've had the same problem before... a few things that will help... put a little bit (when i say a little i mean just a thin coat) of bearing grease on the input shaft where it meets the pilot bearing. another thing is to not have the pilot bearing all the way in the engine... this is your most likely hang up. put a thin coat of grease on this as well and leave it so that it is flush with the end of the flywheel (if the clutch is still on, you will have to take it off, no big deal) then go ahead and push the trans on. it may still be a little snug but kinda twist and shake it into place. even if you dont get it on all the way, you can use the "trans to block" bolts to pull it in. just tighten in a criss cross pattern like you would tighten the lugs on a wheel.

good luck

Back off the trans and put it in a gear and rotate it while you are jiggling and inserting it.
Use longer bolts of the same pitch when starting a trans in.

The spines may not be lining up. Try the way Mech said.

BTW , the longer bolts start easy and hold the tranny from a wider distance to the block to get it aligned properly.

When I was doing a lot of transmissions, I made up a couple of dowels by using a long bolt then cut the head off. Screw them into the bell housing and slide the transmission over the dowels.

I can't be of much help here but I had the same problem when I did my clutch over the summer. Couldn't get her back on for the life of us. Just replaced the tranny Saturday and that bitch slid on in in just a few tries. I'm just here wishing you good luck. :)

Dowels are a great idea, if you have the room.

We got it in today. Took some maneuvering of the tranny and engine. After we got both at the right angle, I gave it a good push while Scort rotated it back and forth and it finally slid into place. Hopefully no more issues for you Scort.
