Im sure someone here has played with tire size and how wide we can go....
Heres the deal, my front tires are BALD, I need new, BUT, I wan some badass sticky street tires! I Cut the strut perches from the strut body, and I have spacers. im trying to put tires on my 16's wheels. We allll know 205's fit flawlessly. I may be pushing it but I wonder if a 235/50/16 will work?
I know one guy who did 225/50/15's BFG drag radials on Koesi K1's and didnt rub (with the strut perches still on) on a zx2...

225 will fit up front...215 will fit on back, with a bit of rub. i've been running 215's all around for 4 years now without any problems. i get a bit of rub in the back if i have a passenger back there and i take a tight corner, but nothing major.

Same thing with how the 98 was.
I could see 235s fitting on the front. If they dont, just grab the fender above the center of the wheel and yank outward (or go to a shop and have them "roll" the lip up and push fender outward).

Ill keep 205/45/16 in the rear, the front will get 235/50/16 HOPEFULLY
The fenders have been rolled!

^make sure you have a little extra offset. IIRC the problem wasn't the fender (you see race cars with wheels sticking past the fenders all the time if they have heavy enough springs)...but it was rubbing the strut.

I think Tsmiley's Bro did a pretty wide tire, awaiting responce.

What is the offset on the wheels you have? I wouldnt run more than a 1/4" spacer unless you are using stronger aftermarket studs.
Also, what is the width of the wheels you are using?

^yeah, you want plenty of thread contact on those lug nuts. the more threads holding your wheels on, the better.

yes, I plan on swapping out ARP extended studs
I really dont kow the offset, how can one tell?

There might be casting / markings on the back side of the spokes / wheel somewhere.

40 is on the high side meaning it puts the tire are closer to the strut...
I'd say +30-35 would be better. You can get to +34 with a 1/4" spacer if they are +40 wheels but IDK if that will be enough to push the wheel/tire combo out to clear the strut.
Lower the # = the farther it is pushed outward / how far in the spokes are. This also relates to wheels with large lips.

hmm, I should just stick with 225/45 or 50/16

235/50-16 is quite a lot taller than stock.

^i agree...you might be close to rubbing the bottom spring perch on your struts.

I DID explain I CUT the strut perches!!!
Anyway, it looks like I may have to just do some nice street tires, I want to put on drag radials on the front but the onyl sizes offered for the 16" rim is like 245/55/16 (that I found)
I DO, however, Have a set of 15" black rota slipstreams, But IMO I think the 16's look sick on my car now (rota grids)
So what I may do is just put a nice street tire on the Grids and put some sick drag rads on the 14" rims I have...
215/60/14 ?

How did you cut the perches and what is holding the springs up? Interested in doing the same, but dont want tires cut down by shredded strut perches.
