did they make her use the weights under her seat for this race? maybe running that weight helped her times a bit...that would be a slap in the face of the people that pushed for it to become a rule. :beernana:

Why not ask if she had more horsepower, a bigger gas tank, a tail wind pushing her ...
Her car passed tech, pre and post.
So the only thing left to ask is if the racing gods were smiling down on her for that race?
Why is it that people have a problem recognizing good race strategy?
It is possoble that races can be won by a car other than the fastest of the field!

Geez, I was asking a simple question because of all the hoopla sometime back when they were complaining that she is the lightest driver. Some were talking about her having to have extra weight in the car......I happen to be a Danica fan and am very happy for her! I never said I had a problem with any type of race strategy or anything of the sort, so why not simply answer my question, if you know the answer, and be done with it? I love nothing more than to see her win, especially if the officials who said she was "lightweight" didn't make her carry extra weight.
Geez, all I did was ask a simple question and this person goes all the way there on me. I am a Danica fan and am very happy for her, but obviously this moron doesn't think so. lol

The new class-based weight rules... ...are in effect in 2008. So yes, Danica did carry the extra weight in her car.

Yes, The rules are in place for everyone and the minimum weight is one of them!
Actually having to add thirty five or so pounds is not the major disadvantage that most think, because they can move it right, left, front to rear as needed prior to inspection as needed for each track. Unless the ICS detailed exactly where the weight needs to be located.

That's in fact a good question, zbban, and shows how people, in this forum, offer expert and authoritative opinions without really knowing what they are talking about.
Quite interesting, in fact, that so much discussion was spent on something that proved to be a non-factor for her win.
And, of course, if she still had those 20 pounds less, people would be crying blood.
Cheers!

From what Ive heard, and from building a formula car at school...more weight equals slower.....
...but...
also, the dummies who wanted her to add that weight didnt think about weight distribution....its like racing with lead attached to your butt...lol
I would think that it would lower the center of gravity even more, not that it isnt a half of an inch off the ground already!
If you have a smart team, and very smart driver and is willing to pretty much drive of fumes.....
All I can say is that its been a long time coming....she deserves everything that she accomplishes...
I wonder what the horse jockies said back in the day when some 4 foot tall guy showed up .... thats something to think about ... now look at jockies ... they are some of the smallest people

lol 4 years... a win is a win... racing isn;t about straight speed who can go the fastest around the track or who can take a turn the best it's mainly about strategy. all the cars out there go amazingly fast and everyone out there can drive but if it were all speed and driver abilities there would be no crew cheif only 5 guys to change tires and add gas.
so I dont think she deserves this win her team does.
but i will give credit to were it was deservedshe did run a good race. and her team had a great strategy.

Of course Danica deserves the win. She was out there driving an amazing race. The whole Team in general win's because they built a great car, and Danica drove that great car skillfully and with finesse . It takes skill and teamwork to win, atleast in an endurance race.

That's it, right there, in a nutshell. A win is a win. Period. I've seen her come soooo close so many times before and am very proud of her accomplishment. She was due, her team was due, although her other team members have won before. She's battled her way into a 99% male sport and done well and I kinda doubt it'll take her 4 more years to grab up another trophy. lol
You go girl!!! :ropenana:

I find this to be awesome news. I've always beena fan of hers. She's a really aggressive but really collected and skilled driver. I'll bet you this boosts her confidence a ton and she'll become even better at what she does.
Remember, she's what, 5'2" tall and 100lbs and piloting these cars at over 200mph? She's got more guts than a lot of us. Glad to see her grab her first win. She already made history in her debut season by being the first female to lead laps at Indy, so this is just the next step.

No one complained 30 years ago when Jackie Stewart started winning. I doubt he weighed over 120 lbs. during his racing career.
A reasonable compromise is to set a minimum driver weight with smaller drivers having to carry weight the same way total weight is set for jockey, saddle and weights in horse racing.
The total (driver, equipment, ballast) weight should be set a reasonable level, say between 132 lbs. (60 kg) to 150.7 lbs (68.5 kg) lbs to level the playing field between lighter drivers, but not force everyone carry the same weight as heavier drivers.
Minimum additional weight above the empty car limit are set for cars by most sanctioning bodies which must be met before and after the race. These include the empty car plus water, oils and other fluids. the same could be done with the driver on-board beoth before and after a race.
Excellent fuel strategy helped Danica win the race. Considering variations in weight from fuel load, I don't see a 25-35 lb. advantage being that important.
If a driver that weighs 100 lbs. or more than Danica is upset, they need to consider visiting a gym or moving to NASCAR. Similar to horse racing, the sport shouldn't impose high weight limits to appease larger drivers, in the way that large jockeys don't find favor.
Within 5 years expect to see athletic 'little people' come into the sport. As long as they are capable of handling the car, they should also be allowed to compete.

a nice advantage she still has is placement of the ballast. since heavier drivers cannot move their weight around, she has the advantage of corner weighting or having the ballast as low in the car as possible. sometimes adding weight will help you go faster...especially if you have the weight below the CG.
