So we're thinking of getting a new couch... should we go with leather or microfiber with big (read 130+ lbs) couch dogs? i worry that their nails will puncture the leather.. but i know that dog hair and drool sticks to microfiber... so i was thinking leather for the cleanability.
opinions? advice?

My parents have a microfiber couch and the puppies' hair doesn't stick to the couch. It sticks to my shirts though. haha. Leather will difinitely rip with your monsters.

or you keep the dogs off the couch since htey didn't contribute a dime to the purchase price! lazy bastards.

Leather + dogs = No-no
I'd get the microfiber unless you're getting thick canvas covers for the leather couch.

My old friend Kim had a white Microfiber couch and a purebred Boxer, 8 cats, and 4 kids. She scotch-guarded the couch and I never noticed any fur or drool or anything. And her Boxer was a Brindel, so her fur would have stood out on a white couch.

Get a leather couch and just put a blanket on it for the dogs to lay on. Easier to clean to.

They'll still puncture it.

Jen and Drew's dogs are small horses. How could you through a huge dog like that off the couch.

we have scotch-guarded microfiber couches and a recliner and two cats. I don't know about dogs, but cat hair is easy to get off(just brush it off with your hands)

We went with microfiber, they should be here in the next week or so, yay!
In the end, it wasn't the dogs that were the deciding factor, it was Drew's tendency to massively sweat that steered us away from leather.

yeah sweat on leather does not feel good. i think you'll like the ease of cleaning your couches, the hair just brushes right off! (boy, i sound like a salesman)

Well, we have microfiber now, but they are tan so you can see a lot of stuff on them. Plus they were free and had alraedy been through the ringer when WE got them. The one thing I worry about is them holding on to the doggy odor. When they took these couches out of the crate when we moved overseas, they STUNK, of course they had been in a sealed box for a couple of months. Febreeze FTW.
The thing that sucks is that the place that we got the couches, doesn't scotch guard them.. but they have a 5 year warranty on stains, rips, and punctures, plus other defects of course. Hopefully they will last us the full 5 years.

we got ours from a rooms to go, i believe, and our house smelled like the new furniture for about two weeks, and sometimes when you walk in the room you can still smell them but febreeze works wonders for sure

I don't mind the new furniture smell.. it's the doggy smell that concerns me more, haha.
