I was wondering if anyone has any experience with a Safeguard? Are they worth their price? Do they override our sensitive stock sensor? Im trying to decide whether it would be worth getting one or not.

I did some research on it a while back. I decided against it, given what I had read back then. Concerning their new product, It looks like it would work since it gives you the ability to adjust the sensitivity of the knock sensor.

I'd double check that we have the same knock sensor the mustangs and focuses (foci?) have and that the wiring procedure is the same. That or get the independant sensor.

It's a pretty high price for a spark timing piggy back. You can get a piggy back with more features for about the same price or a stand alone pcm for just a little more. The only real feature you will be using it for is the knock sensor ability. That's a large sum of money for a little added insurance of a working knock sensor.

I was going to buy a used one on the focus forums until it sold. I have the sct pro racer package and an x cal 2 so as long as my tune is good and I get good gas I should be fine. I might check into a better knock sensor though to see if I can get a more accurate one. I like to tune my ignition timing based off the knock sensor but cant since the stock knock sensor was pulling 4-5 degrees just at idle and it climbed up from there.

If you allready have a pro racer pakage, then I see no need for the J&S safeguard.
You should beable to tune the stock ECU and knock sensor to do what you want it to.

I think the J&S is worth its weight in gold if it saves your engine and it will , It is far more then a piggy back timing , for the Zetec engine where you have to turn off the knock sensor isnt because of a bad knock sensor its because the sensivity it set to high and does not work properly with mods

The knock sensor also does not just pick up on knock it will pick up on inefficient combustion as well
