yay! in 6 hours i'll be waking up and hitting the road for my 2:15 journey down to Mattoon, IL for my first Cole's Couty Airport autoX. i've always raced at either ICC in peoria (way back when) and Joliet, IL (lately).

i trophied! all i got was a T shirt, though. it was a very very small turnout. i'm used to Chicago area, with 170 competitors, and anywhere from 4-18 in my class. i was the only one in STS, so i got bumped into 2 other classes, then we were indexed. i was up against a turbo'd 240sx (s13), a stock 240sx (s15) with race rubber, and an FM car. the FM car got first obviously, i got 2nd. i beat both nissans in raw time as well as indexed time. total there were only a little over 30 people racing.
i'm not used to racing on grated concrete. in Joliet and at ICC (when i used to autoX back in the day with my stock zx2) it's all asphalt. this time we were on an airport taxiway, and the grated concrete was not liking my tires or springs. i got a TON of push and really had to ease up on the car to get it around the corners quickly. usually, at Joliet, i have a hard time keeping the ass end behind me....not the case on the cement.
overall, i was doing good in raw times...for me it was about a 70 second course. there were 5 slaloms, and they were spaced only about 25' apart...it was nuts.
jeremy and ed showed up to watch/ride. jeremy had to leave before i started..so ed rode along a few times. before my 5th run, ed told me my fuel pressure regulator was bad...so he took the vacuum line off my fuel flow sensor. here's the conversation:
ed: you hear that popping sound when you accelerate?
me: yeah..it's been doing that ever since i got my NGP0 4 years ago.
ed: that's your fuel pressure regulator, it's shot...lemme fix it
me: as long as it doesn't leave me DIW
ed: DIW?
me: dead in the water
ed: nah, i'll just take this vacuum line off of it and you'll just run a little rich
me: don't we need like no vacuum leaks for our cars to run
ed: don't worry, i capped off the end of the line
me: alright, i'll see if she runs
so then i make another run...it pops just the same. i made it around the track, so i left the line off. then jeremy shows up just in time for my 6th and final run. he gets in, we go. first slalom...first corner...getting ready to line up for a sharp right into a slalom...bwaaaaaaaaaa...aaa.....aa......aaaaa..... ...a.
it died on me. i was dead on the track and had to push it off and wait for the rest of the people to make their final passes.
so then i work my corner, and we all finish early...so i got a chance to do 2 fun runs. during the fun runs, i got 70.7xx runs, so i figure that's what i was capable of yesterday. i think my best run on the records was 70.2xx...but i hit a cone, so it ended up being 72.2xx.

I think the video will be coming. He was going to mount the camera to the hood for a couple runs.

i got one video from the hood...it was pretty shaky, though. not sure where to host it, because it's too big for photobucket...and youtube always makes my videos grainy as hell.
my wife got tons of pics, though...which will be up this evening.

You may be able to split it up on photobucket. I don't know.

Nice. So what was the final outcome of the car dying?

Vacuum line off of the fuel pressure sensor. NPG0 doesn't like it that way. So it just shut down.

no pics yet...and the video was very shaky...i watched it up on my grandfather's 52". i left my camera at his house, so i'll get pics up when i can. i was running 2* of camber up front...and you can tell in the pics! i've got waaaay too much body roll, and much too hard of tires. looking forward to some ground controls and new tires/wheels!
