i recently bought a hotshot header and was wondering what would give me more performance gains...

bolting it straight on to the existing exhaust
or purchasing a new exhaust system to go with it

and if i need a better system than stock, what are do you guys recommend?

i would like to get the most performance gains so any help would be appreciated

thanks

A full exhaust is best for power. For an ATX 2 inch would be ideal. A bigger pipe might rob your low end of power. If it's a crush bend system go with a 2.25 inch, that will make up for the bends. For turbo apps, 2.5 is good, 3 is a little much unless your pushing high psi.

Most guys around here go with trubendz.com they make a nice system that uses a Borla muffler and is available in stainless steel. I think they also have one with a magnaflow muffler and another ricey lookin thing, not sure of the name though.

I would say 2.5 inch on an MTX, no doubt. But yeah, you definitely want to get a new exhaust to get the most out of it. Where do you want your power band? If you want it more mid to low, a 2.25" will be better. If you want more power over 4K, 2.5" is the best.

Performance where? Low /mid or high?
Where you do 98% of your driving, or 2%?
Absolute highest HP systems have compromises, whether you are talking cams, exhaust, intakes, whatever.

Even though I'm driving slowly 98%, I love to have all the power at that 2%. It's awesome!

Of course!
But until we guess if this guys has an auto trans or manual, what his mods are or will be, driving patterns, type of powerband, etc..., we really can't help in the proper direction.
At least not any more than in the stickies.

2.25" would be your choice I'm thinking. With light mods, you probably wouldn't be able to notice a difference between the two.

2.25 is best for mildly modded n/a 4 bangers.
