Montreal Police Shooting Sparks Riot (http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/08/11/montreal.riots.ap/index.html)

Apparently the US isn't the only country with urban problems. When young people try to overwhelm the police what do they expect, a passive response.

Much is made about how the US is a violent society. However in in addition to this episode, the French have had ethnic riots in Paris, Italy, the UK and other places in Europe have had soccer riots, and there has been violence elswhere.

How is urban violence in Somalia, genocide in Bosnia, the Sudan or Rwanda, sectarian violence in Iraq or Afghanistan or racial violence in Zimbabwe less bad than what the US is accused of.

Perhaps we have it pretty good at home and while we could do better, the rest of the world needs to get it's act together (and do it without the US playing policeman ?)
