So I got a polished valve cover from Vega a couple years back. I totally neglected it and had it in my trunk until recently. It looks a little nasty cause I didn't keep it cleaned. I know it's easy to get it all shiney again, just need a quick run down of how to do it.
Like I said, it's been polished before- so I don't need to know about the paint stripping and all that, just need to know how to clean it up.

wet sand it with 1000grit then 1500 then 2500 and hit it with some polish repeat until clear

So even though it's been polished before, I'd have to sand it again to clean it up? Sounds like fun.

you might be able to polish it if you got a power one but by hand would be killer but its worth a try not sure how bad yours is

It doesn't look that bad for the most part, like it would just need some polish. But there's a couple spots that got pretty nasty, but they're small.

still try polishing it first, use some mothers metal polish
I would try polishing it with a buffer, i thing sanding would be very agressive since it was previously very shiny.
Good luck
