I love my '99 shift knob. You can get them from Summit online I think.

I can't tell which one isn't the real deal, since the one we have is a knock off. Real CF, but not original equipment.

I think the guy that sold the car to Jen snagged it before. Haha they had to put out a recall for the car, since nobody knew where the gears were. They put some stupid sticker near the shifter so people would know... :elephant:

I was one of the first a couple years back to find that autotechnica made the aftermarket "s/r" knob. I have since sold mine because I found a real one.

But yes they were identical.

You can still find them for about 10 bucks if you know what to search for. In their description was: 10mm sport compact leather carbon

If I have time I will search later for an actual source.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but wanted to say thanks for the link to the ebay seller!

I just got mine today ordered it on Tuesday! Very high quality, definitely the real deal, and only $22 shipped!

Thanks again!

Isn't it a great knob? It feels good in your hand. It's a bit on the heavy side, but it makes for a nice shift.

Agreed on all accounts! I was stunned when I opened the package! Beats the hell out of any of the cheap crap at the auto parts stores, some of them are $10 more plus sales tax!

Only thing now is I gotta get a new boot. I just have the crappy rubber stock one. :(

silly question, but is there a way i can mod this so it will thread onto my twm? i swear my s/r knob in my old zx2 threaded on just fine, but this one doesn't..

Big D

I think it probably would. I looked down into it when I got mine and didn't see any threads cut into the nylon insert that holds the knob to the shifter. I even rechecked the package to make sure there wasn't an adapter or something that I didn't get out. I think it cuts the threads when you screw it down on shifter. If it's a 10mm shaft which is what this knob is designed for I think it will fit. As far as I could tell it threads itself when installed.

i already tried threadin this knob onto my twm and it's like tryin to stick it in a woman who's had a few kids already.

just fill in with epoxy and thread it.

fireguy

I just put a helicoil in it instead. and now that it's in, I remember how smooth and fluent shifting is with the twm..

lol @ the anology!

my bad, I misunderstood your post, and obviously I was wrong in my advice. I still thought it just thread itself on as mine didn't appear to have any threads cut in it. Perhaps the TWM shifter uses a different sized shaft?

sorry about that!

fireguy

haha yeah i thought it would get my point across more clearly

it does thread itself on, it's just the gap on the inside piece in the knob was too wide for the threads to cut into. the helicoil wasn't perfect either, but after the knob threaded down a ways i could use the boot to tighten it up real good at the end.
