when you say dogs,, do you mean the male, man whoreing types,, are mans best friend types?

id say dogs are second to chimps, however, if you requier the quadpedal type cretures, id say horses.

My vote is cats, but it really is subjective.

Dogs learn faster, and easier than cats, because they have the desire to please their alpha. Cat do not feel the need to please anyone, therefor it's a lot harder to make them do something, or learn a trick.
Cats an solitary animals. But they are very smart. They can problem solve to a degree, and can find things when they need it.
Dogs can do the same thing, but to a less extent when there is no alpha around.

I think you need to specify what you are looking for in a smart animal in the poll. Do you mean smart in human terms (ability to think and or follow commands) or smart in terms of the animal world (ability to use their senses and adapt to situations).

.....They're both about the same on average, though dogs are definitely more eager to learn......
