DO we have any drop in cams available that have a stock base circle.. like a billet cam? I saw that crane makes cams for us, but i'm not sure on those. Any info and links would be awesome.

Any cam grinder can grind you a stock base circle cam from a blank . Web cams did the ZX2 cams as regrinds , they can also do them on blanks . Most of the cams you see today for the Zetec are mainly for the Focus. You can use the intake cam but not the exhaust cam . If the listing for the cams doesn't list ZX2 specific , it won't fit .

Even with a new stock 'drop in' cam[s], you have to check and adjust the clearance with shims/buckets.
It would be a miracle if you did not have to.
So get what cams you want, and deal with the lash caps and ensuing shim/bucket selection.

the thing with this is, say you get your stock cams out, put the new ones in, and you need xx shims.. you then have to order them... and wait. Or are they cheap enough that you can just buy a stockpile of them and do it all at once? I"m new to the whole shimming a cam thing... last came i put in was a strait up slip in (sohc neon)

I think the shims have been discontinued , the only thing now is solid buckets and they come in all different sizes .

seems to be too much bs/too much money for a nominal gain.

True, that is the thing I have been agonizing over for quite awhile.
There is no such thing as a "drop in cam".

Cams and incidental stuff is high priced for our cars, and a pain to set up right.
I would have done it long ago but it just isn't worth it.
As it is, it's a great street driver.
