JC your added, what color couplers you wanting?

RedRooster, that is correct. With no upgrades you can get the basic complete intake for $160 delivered!

1981, sorry bro, this was Mark's time frame. I can ask for an extension if you are definitely interested but need another week? At the same time it starts becoming a hassle to everyone else when a GB drags on & on before moving to the next stage.. It's hard to find a happy medium. If you had more time would you for sure be in for the GB?

Corby, $160 for the basic kit, it's manageable if you want the best! ;)

CBZx2, checking on the WAI version for you.

JC, the standard kit will come w/ black couplers, so no need for the upgrade option then! I edited your options and price. Waiting on an answer for the filter color.

Yellow2000S/R, yes the MAF adapter is included, and yup the basic kit is the "cold air" intake and locates the filter to the void in the fender left after the stock resonator crap is removed. I will put it on the list under your screen name if thats ok? And the paypal address is in the original post!

Skoot3r, your being added as well, basic w/black PC

Also, just a thought about payments. I updated the first post with the following details:

****ADITIONAL PAYMENT DETAILS****
We do NOT have all 10 units confirmed yet. All payments should be HELD until we reach the total number of required orders!! Otherwise the group buy pricing does NOT go into effect!!! Only 6 more orders to go!!

Has Mark verified this group buy?

Big D
08-25-2008, 11:45 AM
Yup it is official!

Per the first line of the first post:

"Alright guys, here is the deal. I have been working with Mark and he has agreed to do a group buy on his 3" CAI intakes for us!!"

This may be a good time to clarify a couple things for anyone that may be curious, there is no scam here! No money is being sent to me to be sent to him. Listed in the first post of this GB is Mark's paypal address for payment. (I have the snail mail addy as well for those needing money order payment) I contacted him a couple weeks ago about the possibility of a group buy. We chatted back and forth and he agreed. I asked if he wanted to post the details up to get it going, or if he would rather, I would be glad to do it and he wanted me to post the thread. I know I am new here to this site. But not to forums or organizing group buys. I have handled more then a few of them on various other message boards I am a member of for various hobbies!

All I am doing is handling the order taking and orginization of it. When we have all 10 orders (or more) ready to go, we can start making payment's. I will confirm with Mark what has been received on his end and what has been shipped out. The original post will serve as a record of where we are in the process, who ordered what, who paid, who recieved what etc etc. Me taking care of this frees Mark up to concentrate on making the intakes up when we get to that stage so he does not have to spend alot of time monitoring this thread. He also won't (and shouldn't be) bombarded with PM's asking questions about status etc etc. That should all be directed here to THIS thread. That keeps his contact down to just me which should be much more manageble for him when were in the production stage. Less time he spends dealing with the group buy and questions comments etc, the more time he has to build us intakes! ;)

So far so good as far as I can tell, if anyone has any problems with how this is going or being handled please feel free to send me a PM!

We're half way there only need 5 more orders to go!!

How long is this going to take once the order is processed and money has been put into the pot? Any longer then 3 weeks is unreasonable and I am not going to be too fond of continuing my part with this group buy. I understand people are busy but we are talking about 10 people spending together around $1500-$2500 I don't find it unreasonable to ask for a timetable. I don't want to receive parts 2-6 months after placing an order. Not trying to be an ass, just something that matters to me.

To be honest no. I just post to point things out. These intakes are a hefty price, so there's no way I can talk myself into one.

The only group buy I will commit to is the powder odp udp kit.

Good luck on filling out 10 people

Big D
08-27-2008, 07:52 AM
Josh, I was qouted no longer then 3 weeks from the date of the group buy close (sept 3rd). Hopefully sooner but he wanted to give himself enough time. The powdercoating does add another step for those wanting it, and could make it take the full three weeks. As you pointed out three weeks is not unreasonable for a one man shop to get everything done for us on these. Please be patient and stick with us!

Foofy, your on the list bud thanks! Basic Kit, $160

1981, ok, thanks i guess..?

Is there anyway my intake can NOT have the hole for 98 zx2's where the IAT goes?> The hole is useless to me and not needed and I have found the only nice way to completely block these holes in intakes is to etape it. I don't want to do that so I would prefer an intake with the vacume hose nipple and that is it. Just not IAT hole lol.

Big D
09-03-2008, 11:55 AM
josh, yup that is the final question I need to know from everybody is whether or not you will need the hole drilled for the IAT on your intakes. And josh since you do NOT want it I will note that now, you wont get the PM! ;)

Just a thought, and although I trust mark a lot, get his personal information someone. He is looking at about $2200 being sent to his paypal...that tempts even the best of people. I trust him, but you never know,

Big D
09-04-2008, 08:01 AM
Zx2guy19, you bring up a valid point. However there is no real way to address it. Hell I am newbie on here myself so sending me the money first is out of the question. I DONT WANT that anyway, not to mention paypal would snag fees twice on each transaction which would suck.

I have Mark's snail mail address, and I have asked him for his phone number as well. As soon as I have it I will give him a call and just make sure we are good to go. Should a problem arrise this information will be given to anyone who needs it.

At this point the only thing I can say is just like any other transaction for anything over the internet buyer beware! There is always the possibility of getting taken on something, thats just the way it is.

Mark has been around these forums for a while now and alot of people have his product. I really don't think he is out to screw anyone over on this deal...

Payments are NOW BEING ACCEPTED!! From now untill tomorrow Sept 5th, @ 6pm CST! All payments MUST be COMPLETED by 6pm tomorrow to be included!!

Thanks everyone!

I was just lookiong at some powdercoating colors and I realized that some manufactures 'yellows' are somewhat mustard colored. That is not the yellow I'm looking for, I want a bright yellow color. A yellow like whats on the s/r's. If thats the plan then I still want yellow, if not lemme know what other colors I can choose from. Thanks, -Deric

Big D
09-04-2008, 09:31 AM
I have asked for you! Personally I would almost say if your looking for something specific you might be best served to have it done on your own.. You will have greater control doing it this way! Everyone's opinions of what something color wise (specially a color like yellow) looks like will be different. I asked to see a sample of a yellow part done by his coater but I dunno if he will have that or not.

Honestly I don't know besides the basic color choices what will be available, I am guessing red, blue, black, maybe green. Not real sure. We will see what he says!

raceguy246
09-04-2008, 09:59 AM
I suppose I was refering to Tims colors:

http://www.caswellplating.com/powder/powder_colors.html

well, ya know what, I'll trust Marks Judgement!

Big D
09-04-2008, 10:42 AM
Just got a reply, he says it all depends on what they have in stock at the time the part is run! Unless you want a specific custom color choice and then your talking pretty big money for them to order it in etc.

He says the best bet is when he goes to run it through he can tell them, "if you have bright yellow run it, if its mustard yellow don't run it". Only problem with this is if they don't run it if it's mustard you will have to get a refund on the price differance for the powdercoating.

Or we can keep it simple by going with black like the others, (standard color always in stock) or go for just the non-powdercoated intake.

Let me know what you want to do..

I sent my payment, from Raceguy246@aol.com, $250 total, I'm giving u guys a dollar tip each for all of the hassle .

I suppose just request a bright yellow if they have it, if not, then you could coat it in black, or not coat it at all, I dont care, flip a coin or something. Dont worry about a refund.

Thanks for your help with everything and such!

Just a thought, and although I trust mark a lot, get his personal information someone. He is looking at about $2200 being sent to his paypal...that tempts even the best of people. I trust him, but you never know,

Well to be honest I trust mark will come through, I think this is his chance to prove he is going to be serious with his products from now on, I know the radiator brackets were pretty much a disaster so he is going to try to get back to doing things nice and correctly

ZX2guy19
09-08-2008, 11:04 AM
If you have a 98 or a 99.5 you will need an IAT hole. If you have a 99.5 or above, you will not. So basically, what year is your car?

marcus20202
09-08-2008, 11:16 AM
98 thanks. whats its purpose?

ZX2guy19
09-08-2008, 11:21 AM
Intake Air Temperature. If you have a 98 you will have a 4 wire mass air flow, and with a 99.5+ you will have a 6 wire mass air flow. Basically the IAT is the 2 wires that are the difference in the 98 and 99.5. So basically it is just bringing it up to par of the 6-wire, although it doesn't really hurt anything.

joshalabama
09-08-2008, 11:21 AM
Intake Air Temperature, it was a seperate sensor in the 99 and lower instead of being built into the maf. Hence why the maf is 4 wire in the early on's and 6 wire later on. So you will need one, it is just a hole drilled into the intake for you to be able to install your IAT

****UPDATE****

All payments have now been confirmed!! Great job guys I appreciate everyone hopping right in and getting it taken care of! No lagging payers make group buys so much easier to manage when everyone does their part! :beernana:

At this point we are waiting for parts to arrive. Mark sent me an update:

"I ordered the piping friday, so it should be here latest wednesday. The silicone should be here no later than wednesday. I have to order filters, breathers and clamps. I am almost done making the brackets. Once I get the pipes I will drop them off that day and have the welder start on them. Should be there for a couple days max. Then the kits will ship or go to PC."

Now we just gotta be patient and let Mark do his thing! I will update as we move on!

My fathers and mine arrived today!

Overall I like the setup. Cant wait to get my header/exhaust on so I don't have the bad exhaust leak.

Review:

Overall it looks good. Install was easy. We will be cutting the 90* bend down some so the intake doesn't push on the hood (touches when on safety catch). We wrapped some electrical tape around our IAT sensors because they were loose when pushed all the way in. Why yellow breather filters? Especially when the air filters are red.

Alright glad to hear you guys got yours! I got mine today as well! Yep overall I think he did a great job!!

I asked him about the yellow breather filters, he said it was simply what was available to get ahold of ASAP so he could get these out to us! Honestly they are like 4 or 5 bucks at auto zone so not too big of a deal to swap out if it really bugs!

I also asked him about the IAT grommets, He had me go take a caliper to mine to get the exact size. He has already ordered replacements for us. He should have them by Wed he said, and will turn around and send them out to those of us with IAT holes as soon as he gets them! :rocknana:

I thought I would put up a couple pics of what the basic kit looks like:

I'm kinda happy if I get the yellow breather filter... Actually, I would love one cuz I've been looking all over for a yellow one and couldn't find one.

any idea as to when the PC'd ones will be shipped, that and how long they take to be shipped?

Big D
09-24-2008, 08:04 AM
Raceguy, if yours comes in with a different colored breather I am sure someone will swap with you! Maybe yellow2000 would? If not I would it doesn't matter much to me.

As far as when the PC'd ones will be done, not sure I am guessing this week. They are there now. As soon as they are done he will be shipping them out! Mine would have only taken 3 days from FL to KC but i had a weekend thrown in there.

Big D
09-25-2008, 10:09 PM
Alright guys, final progress update!!

The powdercoating was completed today! Mark is picking up the pipes tomorrow morning and will be shipping out all the rest of the kits tomorrow afternoon!! I will update you all with tracking numbers as soon as I get them!

Raceguy, unfortunately the yellow was a mustard yellow. Mark told them to go with the black. Hope this is ok!

Regarding the IAT grommets, he recieved them but the hole was way to small. He will be fixing this and getting them out ASAP!

I really appreciate everyone staying patient!!

nice write up, wish i had it when we put mine on haha. we pretty much did the same thing putting the mmi in except we started on the other end and worked towards the filter. oh and on the little breather, we were kinda unsure as well, so we just took off the hose going to stock one and just clamped the new little breather on the nipple where the hose connected to. i'll post a pic up later. and yeah, its got a nice new sound to it

Ok guys another update!!

Everyone has now been shipped out except joshalabama. He got the pipes back on friday but wasn't able to get the lazer engraving done on them to get them shipped out. This morning he finished up the lazering and the last one he was working on happened to be for joshalabama. He said in his own words "the coating looked like shit" so he is having it redone at the powder coaters. Should be done today.

I apologize for the delay Josh!! But it sounds like in the long run you will be better off then stuck with a crappy coating job!

Hey I just thought I would post an update here, for those that are interested. Mark says he will do another Group Buy on the intakes in december if there is enough interest. Would have to be 10 intakes again. IF there is a enough interest ahead of time he said he would go ahead and get all the stuff ordered/instock/produced so that at the time of the group buy other then powder coating they can be shipped as soon as they are paid for!!

What about Custom orders?

Has anyone tested this CAI out yet. Reason I ask is because you get complaints about typhoon and weapon R, so I was wondering how Mark's fared compared to others? Is it actually better or the same, details please.

It is 10x better than any others, it has been dyno-proven also

Also Mark said it will probably start december 10th

I dyno'd 9whp more, but that probably isn't 100% accurate.

My car is balls faster with the MMI, it was an immediate difference with full bolt ons swapping from the Ebay CAI to the MMI CAI. I was extremely warry about such a gain on a bolt on car with an intake swapping to another intake, but, the gains are there. Not only does the car sound like there is something under the hood now instead of the loud rasp of ebay intake, it pulls harder.

9whp to what? stock or aftermarket I dyno'd 9whp more, but that probably isn't 100% accurate.

I will talk to Big D about doing another GB or starting it and I will run it. I know he is slammed at work so I dont want to take anymore time away from him. The GB will start soon, so it will give atleast 2-3 weeks for you to get your money going. I will have all the intakes done, meaing welded, and filters and all the basics before anyone pays. This way if you want a basic CAI it will ship out within 48hr, and if you want a PC one it will take no longer than a week. Not sure if I should start a new thread but if you are in please put your name down. The material did go up, so the prices on the old GB are $8 to low. Please dont think that the normal intakes are going to be the same price they are actually going up $10 so I am giving an extra $2 off.
