Zx2 ARE TOO DANG SMALL! NO ROOM TO WORK WITH!!!
So today i was changing my oil. So i went under my car and got the bolt off and let the oil drain. Waited for like 2 seconds and said ill get the oil filter off. I couldnt do it under my car because the oil was draining. So i went form the top. (BECAUSE FORD SUCKS AND THEY WANTED TO PUT IT IN THE MOST FUCKED UP PLACE THEY COULD FINE! THEY WON IN MY BOOK!) So i had the tool so i could take it off. Put my hand down there next to the thing next thing i know BAG! BALM FLAG! i hit my alternator which made a spark. Sparks were every where! I probably looked like this when it happen:something:
So this don't really sound bad but all i can say is.
SPARK + OIL = BOOM!
I was lucky

Oil is not flammable, it is combustible. You need pressure...
You should have gotten the filter loose first and then gotten it from the top.

oh dang! that was close. ya I agree the fuel filter is hard to access. I had to jack up my car to get it from underneath. Be careful!

We're talking about the oil filter. The fuel filter isn't even accessible from below.

Spill some oil on the ground and try to light it on fire. Do the same with diesel.
Do not try this with gasoline.

Way to suck at a basic job. lol I kid. But seriously you should never need an oil filter wrench, Specks on oil filters are "once the rubber gasket has touched the mating surface, an additional 3/4 of a turn is required" I just do an additional 2 but if its anything more than hand tight, its TO tight.

yeah but with heat and time some oil filters can stick theirselves to it...or the person before you might have wanted to be extra sure by cranking it that extra 1/2 turn

Iv never had an issue and iv been changin oil since I was a lil kid. A lil white lithium grease on the end and no worries. And if it is stickin, its proly some cheap pos filter.

are you kidding me? i've put out cigarettes in #2 deisel and 9250 lube oil before. i think you can do the same with JP-5 jet fuel and 2110 hydraulic oil as well. take some time to learn about combustion, and get back with me.

i find it a zillion time easier if you let all the oil drain first then loosen the filter off from the top and just let it drop through/onto the cross member bar and just get it from there.. and yeah hand tight is plenty good yo

the oil filter is a PITA however I just use my left hand to loosen it up from top but if my arm was much bigger I couldn't reach in there to get it lol. Ive never tired it from the bottom I did try using the oil wrench but I can't get it in there easily enough. I like changing my oil lol call me a weirdo.

Thats how i do it. Going underneath is just asking for oil on your face. I find it real easy to not use a tool at all. I use a square piece of rough grit sandpaper. Stick my arm right down there, quick turn, loosen it, lay it on the crossmember and go underneath and grab it from there. I find it easy to look thru an intake runner when putting the filter back on. Im pretty quick with the zx2 oil changes nowdays.
I agree Aaron, i love it too haha

haha that sucks, this is why I have my own tool set lol, my little brother uses my dads tools and my dad always busted out balls for not putting his tools away and since we wanted to keep using his tools we just developed a habit:upsidenana: of putting the tools back lol.

I always did oil changes from the bottom. Alternator is kinda in the way, and if you have a strut bar (which I had most of the time), forget about going from the top. If you lift and get under the car far enough you can reach up to the filter with ease.
Never used anything to remove the filter. Yea, there was that time or 2 that I wanted to stap a screwdriver threw it but I didnt. I've changed the oil probably a dozen times.
I have small hands...and never had a problem with the oil filter...
Change the oil filter on a cavalier or sunfire...after they just got through running the Daytona 500....hell just get to that damn filter....ouch....

well i always go through the bottom being that its up on a lift, when you can get a good look at it its not hard to remove the filter
if you can't do the filter don't be doing any kind of hard work on the car..since that is easy to do on our cars

Wow, I can't imagine changing the oil from the top! Do so many people really have an issue with changing their oil? I just jack the car up and slide underneath. I drain the oil and remove the filter by hand, all from underneath the car. I've never had to use a tool, except maybe a rag for grip, to remove the filter. And I've never gotten oil in my face!

I take the filter out from the top and drop it down. Then I get under the car. Not a big deal really.

due to my carbon fiber hood, i removed the washer fluid tank, super easy to get the oil filter in and out from up top with that removed.

Are you serious? Changing the oil is a joke on this car.

Don't complain. ZX2s are easy oil changes.
Now my wife's Pontiac is dumb. The oil filter is tough to reach, even from the bottom. Also, it's directly above the exhaust (above flex pipe and beginning of piping) so the oil drains down onto the exhaust and it stinks for a little while after changing the oil because it has to burn off the pipe.

Oil changing is not that hard...All you have to do is turn the front wheels to the right and the filter is right there underneath...I don't even need to jack the car up...
yeah...
