one the guys i work with drives a 79 GMC truck an everyday, all day, he talks trash about how he would beat tha crap out of me in the mile. I've been into racing since 1994 when i went to Japan an got my first Honda. I have never seen anyone race for a mile, but i'm tired of hearing this dudes mouth. alil info my 2.0 is still stock with a AMT but my susp. is done an i have a better wing so i stick to the road better. What do you guys think i should do? i'm new to ZX2's but there not to far from my non-turbo eclpise i had. give me some hints so i can shut this guy up.

Where in the world do you race a mile at, safely? You know besides a closed off track or something.

As everyone has expressed surprise in, there is no such thing as a 350 big block.
Second, you might be surprised at how quick some trucks can be. I had a shortbed, regular cab, 2wd 94 Ford with a 302 in it. It was quick to begin with, but that sucker flat out flew with headers, CAI, and a chip. I never timed a quarter mile (didn't know that was the standard back then, young dumb and full of c#$), but it would hit just under 90 mph. I've hit 90 in a quarter when it was cold.

Not to mention, a 79 will be carbed. Easy HP, just put a bigger carb on it (there is a point of diminishing returns, though). Honestly, racing for a mile shows little more than gear ratio. That's it. Personally I think that is pointless.

That's not entirely accurate there is a company that makes a big block kit for a 350 I'll have to find it but I've seen it. Although I'm sure someone with a 79 GMC wouldn't be able to afford to put one in.

is this thread serious?

fyi a 350 chevy will always be a small block, no matter what kit is bought.

Even if a big bore /stroker kit makes big inches but it is still a small block.
Trucks are fast until they come to the first corner.

i know nothing about chevys but what if you stroked a 327... is it possible to achieve 350 and also would it just be called a stroker engine?

pissdrunx16
08-22-2008, 05:25 PM
Posted via Mobile Device you could turn a 327 into a 350 but it wouldn't be a stroker .... I am pretty sure the reason the call it a 383 strokernis because it has a 400 crank in it witch gives it a larger/longer stroke

Perform a few mods to your car.
Read your brains out on this forum and make your cos decisions.
Many things can be done for cheap.
/And with your speed limiter at 106 MPH, don't bother racing at this point.

You can de-stroke a block. IIRC, a 400 small block with a 327 crank gives you a 348 cid engine. Carroll Caudle, now of Amarillo, TX was a very successful drag racer with this engine in a '55 Chevy.

But, this is still a small block engine.

Okay maybe dude was just going off of what type of engine the guy said he had..

Easy is that, no reason to flame on him. How about just givin him some mods to do..

Posted via Mobile Device. Haha true ok well like I said before and mech disable the speed limiter (my pos 350 could hit 115mph .... at least!!!) intake...or keman mod..... There are more cheap mods just look around on here

His engine won't rev out at all. If you disable your speed governer, or talk him into racing a half mile instead, you'll be abel to beat him. That thing is a brick and the faster it goes the harder it has to work to push through the air. My brother tried to tell me his ton truck with the 454 in it could outrun my wifes ZX2. After leaving him behind like he was in reverse, he wasn't so cocky about it.

there was a 5.7l bbc chevy but it wasnt a 350ci it was a 348 .... also.. there was a 350 pontiac engine.. larger than a small block chevy but still a different engine than a bbc.. pontiac, buick and olds didnt neccisarily go by the same castings and sizes as chevy did .. semantics really... either way .. DOUBT he has either in his truck..also.. whats the deal with the better wing comment?? wtf??

If you have an ATX, you might do a little better in the mile compared to the 1/4. But I doubt it. ATXs are just plain dogs either way. If you don't have an ATX, well, you will still probably lose. It's still just an Escort at this point.

Read the new to the site thread in the noobs section. It has a LOT of good info.

get the jump on him at the line, and toss a handful of roofing tacks in front of his truck, hard to win a race on 4 flats!!!

08-22-2008, 08:22 PM
Or how about you two just go to a track and race on a 1/4 mile. Then you can have slips to rub in his face. Racing for a mile is dumb, you'll die, goto jail, or kill someone. It's a 79 GMC vs. a stock ATX Escort... I mean, come on. Seriously. Does it really matter who wins? Just tell him congratulations and move on.

dont underestimate old pickups. friend of mine had one, bored and stoked to a 383, fairly high compression, edelbrok intake and carb, built up trans.. full time 4wd .. yes seriously... it would roll all 4 tires from a stop and peg the stock speedeo of wich i think was 120 or so. it looked and sounded like a big old pos chevy... whats to say this guy doesnt have all this done?

race him and if you dont beat him then kill yourself. plain and simple.

pdwighty
08-23-2008, 04:59 PM
just race him... if he wins then he beat an escort (big deal) if you win however then rub it in his face for lossing to an escort.... haha

As for mods check the noob section or the how-tos on disableing the speed gov. I figure if you can't beat him now then it should only take some cheep mods to bring you up to his level...

thank you to all the people that gave me some pointers. that was cool! but to the other a**es an shit talkers you know where you can stick it. you slow driving fags! its been at least 5 yrs since i've had a car to race but i'm not going to let anyone stand in my face an talk shit just because he's diving his daddys truck. so like i said thank you to the guys with the pointers, an you others need to learn what pride is!

Beodude123

Pride is one thing, stupidity is another. Racing something that you can't possibly beat is silly. Maybe if you had some mods, then it could be possible. But it would take a few to really get much out of the car.

What do you have, 4 speed auto, or 5 speed manual?

An automatic ZX2 is not a race car either. Even with a wing on it.
