what did you do about the unused extra stock exhaust hanger mount on the passenger side by the tow hook??

I'm installing mine and that thing is literally resting on the borla can.. I can see bad things happening there! Do I cut it off??? Kinda hate to do that.. Thought about leaving the rubber hanger mount, just trimming it down and squishing it between the can and the mount bar but worried the heat will melt it into a gooey mess!!

Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

On the trubendz website doesnt it say you have to bend it out of the way a little bit? Think I read it there you should check the site. I would but Im lazy, plus Im going to bed.

Posted via Mobile Deviceyea they tellbyou to bend the tow hook on the web site .... Butbi had to cut off the mount on the car also... I didn't plan on reinstalling the stocker exhaust on it anyways

yea, they just say to move the tow hook, got that covered. I was planning on keeping the stocker just in case i ever sell or anything. That was until i became furious trying to remove all the rusted up bolts and crap. I ended up having to cut the stocker out :( i wanted to be able to go back if i needed to but yea. I guess ill just have to cut it out. not worth ruining a $500 exhaust setup!

Glad thats solved. Im sure if you really ever wanted to return to stock you could fab something up.

You can leave the rubber hanger. Unless you shoot flames out, it won't get hot enough back there to melt that rubber.

really? in that case i will leave it and just keep an eye on it! thanks for the tip!

Have a longer hanger welded on or see if you can bend the existing one enough to keep it from rubbing.

My Magnaflow uses both hangers, a little off center, clears the tie down. I adjusted it a little by loosening the ball/socket joint, moving the muffler over a little and retightened.

Interesting you brought this up Pissdrunk, While I did my install I also put in a TWM ss. Since I had a highflow cat put in my trubendz kit, they obviously didn't take into account short shifters! Right underneith the shift lever is where they put the cat (really the only place the could) My heatshield was completely sandwiched between the bottom of the shifter and the cat on my muffler. It wouldn't shift at all it was that tight.

I tried everything I could to adjust/bend/straighten the heat sheild to be able to get it to fit with no luck. I ended up having to remove the heat shield all together! I was going to put this question up myself! Am I making a big mistake by removing the heat shield? There doesn't seem to be anything that will really be effected by the heat right there..

I wasn't sure what else to do with it. After I removed it I got the exact clearence I needed for the short throw, but I don't want to mess anything up!

i'd like to know this also, that heat shield is already sorta gay with my twm right now and i didn't realize it was gonna be even more a bitch with the trubendz setup..

Posted via Mobile Device I cut my heat sheild out when I put on the exhaust.... Mine will just rattle slightly only when down shifting or turning with throttle.... But if I push the shifter down u can make it tap on the exhaust

Another question since I don't want to start a new thread, is there an easy way to check for an exhaust leak at the manifold? I don't think I have one, but want to make sure so I can get it taken care of! thanks!

Bump!

Any thoughts on me removing the heat sheild?

What about checking for the exhaust leaks at the manifold? One thing I read on the internet was to take a couple of shop rags and plug the end of the pipe then check for leaks. This sounds a little odd, does this method work? I dont wanna mess anything up doing this.

I am smelling a funny smell now when stopping at lights after driving. (window down) Doesn't really smell like exhaust though it smells almost kind of sweet. Hard to explain. It seems to be coming from under the hood though. I'm thinking it could be one of 3 things:
1. exhaust from a leak at the manifold
2. smell from the high-temp powdercoat used on the header/downpipe baking
3. possibly the high-flow cat getting "burnt in" . I read on a google search that new cat's sometimes will give off a weird smell for a couple weeks after being installed.
(i know my cat has a weird smell if I don't change his litterbox for a couple weeks!)

An exhaust leak usually can be heard. Listen carefuly, accelerate the engine slighty the nois will increase. Another way, you have to be very carefull, hold your hand a slight distance from where you think the leak is and you will feel it. Again, be very carefull, the exhaust is HOT.

Posted via Mobile Device when I changed tto my header and exhaust I thought I had a leak but I think I was just tripping because I have been looking and listening for like two months now and I have found nothing it's just louder... As for the heat sheild like I said u got rid of mine and have had no problems what so ever it was just getting in the way and things where rattlingnon it so it had to go!!! I have had no heat issues either

Thanks for the tips iceracer! I had my neighbor come over and help me check it out tonight. He's kind of a motorhead, he has built a couple old school muscle cars and generally knows his stuff pretty well. He thinks its just the new exhaust smell of things being used for the first few times. He said he has smelled it before when he installed a new system in one of his past cars, and he said his new ATV smelled the same way for a couple of weeks after he got it.

We checked everything over real good, there is no noticable difference in sound really. I think I can hear just regular engine chatter that is a little louder then it used to be but nothing that seems off. He said the same thing, he said you will KNOW if you have a leak its that noticable. So I think I'm good. I'm just going to go with it for now and see what happens!

I do have some pics and a video clip of the setup. I will post them up in the photo thread!

Best way to look for a exhaust leak is to have someone hold a rag against the tip a few seconds and listen to the pipes.

Actually, jam the rag into the tailpipe, rev the engine up and down.
it will run for 1/2 minute or so, enough to find a leak. And you can do it again if it is not enough.

This won't mess anything up mech? Basically you're just looking for where the exhaust is now escaping after plugging the tailpipe..?

Won't hurt at all.
It won't run very long though with a potato in the pipe end.
Withe the big end plugged, any small leaks will be very evident when you rev it a bit.
You may have to repeat the process as you look/listen at various points.
