so i picked up a set of mx-3 recaros last week and they need cleaned up a bit but that's all. but obviously they do not match my interior. i know someone on here dyed there's black. i don't quite remember who it was but i'd like to know what you used and how to go about doing it. i also saw fabric paint in an arosol can but i'm a little hesitant with that. any advice or feedback would be awesome. thanks

Dont use the duplicolor fibric dye (spray can) because it will rub off

I'm in the same situation...ZX2guy19 mentioned a name before, but that was on the old site. Did you happen to figure something out?

I used duplicolor flat black fabric paint, if you do paint them make sure you Prep the seat's really well, tape the parts you dont want to get paint on! and wipe the seats down with a prep wipe or something. then apply 2-3 coats, wait 15 mins between coats and rub the seats with your hand after each coat has dryed or it will leave a rough texture... here are some before and after pictures.

no it wont be rough at all if your rub the seat after each coat, mine came out smooth. its never rubbed off on my pants or anything, its been about 4 months and the driver seat if start to fade just a little bit but nothing to worry about it still looks good. oh and i just used some spray cleaner i had and some rags to take all the dirt off...

i've used the duplicolor fabric paint on mx3 seats. it takes a lot of paint to completly dye the seat. in my case it did rub off onto pants and it faded quite badly within a year. Also, my whole car smelled like paint for weeks after installing them. and that was after letting them dry in the garage followed by shampooing them! I wouldn't do it again.

Gold member, just like few other members said DO NOT dye your seats with duplicolor. They WILL rub off, I painted my trunk on my wife's malibu and every 8 month I need to respray to keep it from rubbing off too bad. The only way it won't rub off is if you don't use it and I don't see that happening

what about spraying scotch guard or somthing like that after painting? seams to me if it can repell liquid it might also protect the paint from the wear and tear of driving and getting in and out aswell as keeping it from fading???

i used the duplicolor. its something about the fabric on the mx3 seats as it dosnt hold the color well. the only spots you can notice wear is basically the driver seat since that is the most used. it did smell like paint in the car also.
honestly, i would not reccomend getting it because its basically a waste of time and money if you are wanting something that is going to last long and still look good. i went and bought some dye from the cleaners and hopefully that is going to work. i will take before pics of what they look like with them worn out right and pics of after i use the pro. dye.
if you can hold off a week to paint your seats then ill be the test dummy and try to tell you the best thing to use. gimmie till next weekend since i will be in school this whole week.

You just going to dye the whole cover then, or is there a way you can think of to do a duo-tone pattern?
