I'm switching schools and pursuing a career in ESL. I'm not entirely sure what kind of bachelor's degree I need. Obviously education, but I don't know what kind of education. Is there any sites someone could recommend to learn more about this?

ESL is often used an abbreviation of English as a Second Language. I will assume this is what you mean.
Generally, you will need a degree in education to start and expect to complete a master's degree within the prescribed period for the state you live in. You will need proficiency in English and you will need to demonstrate literacy in one of more languages of the people you are teaching. Spanish and Chinese are two hot areas.
Keep in mind that entry elevl jobs in education pay modest salaries although with certain specialties you can climb the pay scale faster based on school district needs.
I'm going to suggest something else for you to look at, speech-language pathology (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos099.htm). The wife (Early developmental child pschologist with a Ph.D. in psychology) tells me the one skill that is in very short supply is speech pathology and it is difficlut to find qualified candidates.
People with certain licensed or certified skills also hire into school districts after only a few year experience in the top few pay bands. If you are interested in education, look at the specialties before making a decision.

Yes English as a Second Language. I would be hoping to teach it to younger children in the US, and they teach them english using english. I don't think you are required to know more than one language unless you are teaching people who are in upper grades or adults. I'd also have to know the native language if I taught in a different country.
I know it varie by state and I think that in New Jersey I need a bachelors in some sort of education, and then you go through the certification process. But some sites said in NJ you don't need to be certified.
Jon that would be a great alternative, but one of the reasons I want to teach ESL is because of world wide job opportunities. While it does seem like an interesting career it doesn't suit me.

I know spouses of people i work with who taught English when they were posted oveseas, in particular, in Japan, China, Italy, France and Germany. All of the overseas jobs required fluenecy in the native language, except for the couple who spent 3 years in Germany.
Pay was great for the instructors in Japan and in China, but not all that great in Euriope. My suggestion is to investigate this further before making the leap.

Well as I said in the first post I am looking for sources to learn more about it. And about teaching in other countries that's what I said. In other countries I will need to know the native language. In the US however with younger children I only need to know english.
But that's not the point. I was simply looking for reliable sources to learn about ESL and the degree that would be best.

You could make an appt or do a walk in with a local community / state college and speak with a counselor.

Yup I am going in to speak with one tomorrow at 11. I am a bit worried they might not know too much about it, that's all.
