There is a '06 GTP being sold locally for $10,500 with 50,000KM (roughly 30k Miles) If you don't know the specs, these are them:
Vehicle layout Front engine, FWD, 5-pass, 2-door coupe
Engine 3.9L/240-hp/240 lb-ft OHV 12-valve V-6
Transmission 6-speed manual
0-60 mph 6.2 sec
Quarter Mile 14.4 @ 96.4
Does anyone have experience with these cars? My cousin had the earlier grand prix GTP and it was a pretty solid car. My ZX2 is starting to get on in years and mileage, figured it was about time to buy a new vehicle. I work out of my vehicle so I need something some what cheap and reliability is obviously important since I need it literally everyday for work. I want something that is fast-ish and sporty. Everyone feel free to suggest vehicles for me, I'd like to stay in the 10k or less category.

Yeah, but for good reason. Awesome cars for the price. I would definitely drive one around even if everyone else was. Especially the Mazdaspeed3.

I know Dave likes the Mazdaspeed... LoL
240 hp out of a 3.9? That's kind of lame. I guess that would mean it has power potential, but I guess it would have to have aftermarket to make things.

ill agree on the MS3, but they run 37k after taxes here
Only thing that scares me about GM is it seems like they always have a issue with intake manifold gaskets and build quality issues. It always seems that there v6's are unreliable..all they can make it seems like is a 350 small block.

My father-in-law has a 2007 G6 GT sedan. It's not the GTP, but it is pretty fast (compared to a ZX2) and has a TON of great options including a manual-shifting mode on the ATX. He has the 3.5L V6 with 219 hp/219 tq. The GTP has 252 hp/251 tq. and a 6-speed.
VERY VERY VERY nice car. It looks great inside and out and has good performance. I bet the GTP is even more fun.
As for reliability, Pontiacs ARE very good. My wife's 2000 Sunfire that she bought new has 96,000 miles on it and the ONLY problem has been an alternator. It's been pretty much perfect since she bought it in late 1999. If you take care of a GM, it WILL treat you well.

Thanks for the feedback I'm seriously considering this car.

I used to think the same thing, but, like I said my cousin had a previous generation GTP and it held up beautifully even under serous abuse. It through a rod around 250,000KM and the replacement engine with half the mileage (125k KM) cost him roughly $400 WITH the supercharger - the car still runs today.

i would llove to drive one of these, my friend has a saturn aura xr with the same motor, and its sweet. these are the new OHC engines that are pretty realiable. i would say go for it.

I would say, go for a car that has a better depreciation rate. Like a Honda, or a smaller, more fuel efficient car from another manufacture.

Screw resale values...if you get a car you love, you'll keep it until it is dead.
If you go car shopping based on resale values, you'll end up limiting your options, missing out on a great car and you'll probably get something boring/ugly like a Honda or Toyota.

Crappy resale value is usually just the first owner's problem. That car has already taken a major hit in value, so it will likely stabilize for the next few years. If you drive the car and really like it, I'd say go for it. I haven't driven a G6, but I have had an Aura as a rental before, it was a nice car. Not the easiest thing to see out of, but that was my only real complaint. Just make sure the car has a clear title.
And as far as GM intake manifold gaskets: I do know several people that have had to deal with this, but none happened before 125K miles.
