I have almost no use for my gauges anymore. At least the boost guage anyway.

Boost and Narrowband A/F (for now), obviously not on the zx2 though.

I use my laptop which allows me to read almsot any fuction visible with the Ford enhanced OBD-II. For daily driving, I don't have any additional gauges. If I need it, I have a helper monkey that looks at the laptop while I drive.

Narrow band A/f. I know its almost useless, but for $28 bucks, when I had a $30 summit gift card for my birthday, I though it was a pretty cool buy at the time.

I have a ScanGauge2 (not an option so I can't vote) still sitting in the box.........Haven't "installed" it yet. Not that it's hard to do, just want to mount it in a convient location and haven't had time.
The ScanGauge II can display up to 4 of 12 possible gauges at one time. The units of measure can be changed and the rate of update can be increased or decreased....
Fuel Economy
» Fuel Rate
» Battery Voltage
» Coolant Temperature
» Intake Air Temperature
» Engine Speed (RPM)
» Vehicle speed (MPH and KM/H)
» Manifold Pressure
(not available on some vehicles)
» Engine Load
» Throttle Position
» Ignition Timing
» Open/Closed Loop
The ScanGauge II automatically tracks
and stores data for 4 Trips.
Maximum Speed
» Average Speed
» Maximum Coolant Temperature
» Maximum RPM
» Driving Time
» Driving Distance
» Fuel Used
» Trip Fuel Economy
» Distance to Empty
» Time to Empty
» Fuel to Empty
The ScanGauge II can check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and if found, can display how many there are and the Trouble Codes themselves.
» Reads Trouble Codes
» Reads conditions that set the Trouble Code
» Clears Trouble Codes
» Turns off "Check Engine" light
» Tells you when vehicle is "Ready" to pass OBDII testing
» Make and store up to 10 rewritable special codes
to send to the vehicle computer
There's a lot of stuff this can actually do....
So...how's that for gauges.....:p

I've got a narrow band a/f gauge. It's not all that great.
I have:
innovate wideband lm-1 w/ lma-2 and xd-16 gauge. I use it as a guage and analog logging for megasquirt (uses the 5v output)
Autometer full sweep oil press and temp for the dry sump system (believe these are cobalt series)
Autometer full sweep zseries fuel pressure , because im boosted and running a return system
Autometer short sweep cobalt series water temp (running civic radiator on a boosted motor)
I can plug a laptop into my megasquirt and tell what any of the engine sensors are doing, at any given time.
Also running a eboost2, which is a boost controller and boost/vac gauge in 1
Only gauge I have left to get is a pyro/egt, I have a spot on the neukin mani for it, gotta plug it or get a sensor in there before start up.
narrow band, amp temp, and nitrous pressure gauge
I have a ScanGauge II also Plus 2 Prosport pod type gauges i had mounted pre-scangauge II. Those were Volt, Water temp, I still use those and run hpr, mph, rpm, mpg on scangauge also. Went ahead and put scangauge on fast readout mode to get quicker refreshing of values. At night i just dimmed cluster all the way down and use the scangauge. MPH is accurate id say 100% if not close enough checked via gps, and one of those cop things that tell you how fast your going.

I have all ultralite gauges, Boost/Vac, Oil Pressure, Wideband, Fuel level, Spedo, Tach, water temp, and I have my sniper tuning, which gives me all my readouts that I need on my computer. but I also need to get Pyro/egt, Fuel Pressure.

If you get SCT Xcal2, i know you can hook up your lap top and read that sensor. It's a electrical sensor. The computer reads that.

That ScanGauge is cool, but it would be neat if it had some graphical displays instead of just simple text readouts. But as an auxillary side gauge, it does quite a bit.
I've got a voltmeter and vacuum gauge. I also built a simple lateral G sensor and readout. And, I modified a Commodore 64 and wrote programs to display speed, accelleration/deceleration, trip distance, max and avg speed, lateral G, and estimated wheel horsepower.

The first one? Ambient Air Temperature? And if I end up getting a Tuning package of some sort, it will def. be sniper.

I actually really hope you are kidding about sniper. I'm serious...if you go with that, you have got to be stupid. It has PROVEN to be the worst tuning for these cars...please don't be a retard like the 3 that actually went with them, 2/3 of them blew up, lol.

I've been doing a lot of research with them and the options they let you enter are amazing compared to SCT. Anyway, it's not about that, I wanna know about the gauge.

It's a lost cause...some people will just never learn man...even though SCT is tried and true. Watch, Sniper will tell him they'll cut him a deal by letting him be a sponsor like they do with everyone else. I hope he doesn't let himself learn the hard way...

Ok, I changed my mind.
Go with sniper and while you're at it throw a piggy back like a greddy E-manage on your ECU. Our cars love them..... :eyes:

3 that actually went with them? add me and aprophetofone to that list. dont know the other guys but ive had my car sniper tuned for a year now. not a single problem whatsoever. and i tuned aprophetofones zx2 a few weeks ago on a base 89 tune for his mods, with my extra bullet for free, to give him a taste. he loved it, his car hasnt blown up either.

cut who a deal? you ever been on the sniper forums? talked with the guys that run the company?
lilzx2, i did the research long and hard before i decided to go sniper.
i even posted on the sniper forums looking for the best deal on the product, not a single person said anything about sponsorship. there is something about sponsorship on their homepage....but the year ive been on their forums ive never even seen anyone mention any type of sponsorship from sniper. just guys like me trying to learn, and sniper tuners/dealers willing to teach.
you know what also helped push me towards sniper, stuff like this, people bashing them without any firsthand expirence. you do know that patrick was THE grand national man, and a major player in the "cracking" if you will, of the modern fuel injected computers, and was a mojor part in the development of "other" tuning companies softwares?

Ok I'm going to add to EvilZX2. I also am runnig Sniper have been for almost a year now. Been running it with turbo, at 15psi, on a 250,000 mile stock motor. And the car runs great. The guys that actually own sniper, are great to deal with and talk to. Pat has been in this buisness for over 20 years i think. He actually worked for SCT at one time, and so the experince he got there went into Sniper. So before you guys start bashing something, maybe try it out first.

I was purely commenting on the post that sniper does more than SCT.... I never said that sniper did less than SCT.
As for the rest, I went with SCT and have not ever regretted it for a moment.... I've read several threads on the site before it crashed about guys blowing motors with sniper after praising them. I'm glad that two of you on the board have had good experiences with them.
Now back to guages....

I checked that link, and those gauges look like regular outside-air temperature gauges. Like if the weather is 40 degrees outside, this gauge can tell you that. Now, when it comes to tuning, I'll admit that I'm not very knowledgeable. So, when you say you want to measure your intake air temperature, do you just mean the temperature of the regular, atmospheric air that is entering your intake, before going through your air filter and then going into your engine? If so, then I guess you could use this guage and just mount the sensor somewhere near the opening of the air intake, but not where it would block any airflow. The link said it measures up to 158 degrees F, so if underhood temperatures near that intake are hotter than that, then this gauge may not work very well. Again, though, I'm just guessing here. If anyone else knows more about this, then let us know!
However, for outside air temperature, that looks like a cool gauge! I could possibly use the red one to go with the inside of my car, to replace an LCD one that I have now, but I didn't see any prices on that website. Any idea on the cost?

I think it was around $50 w/o sending unit and $65-ish w/ sending unit. And thanks for the help. And yeah, I want to meter my intake air temperature. Preferably as close to the TB as possible, but I guess mid-stream would be alright too.
Here's an actual IAT gauge.

None of you are running any kind of impressive power either. If you want to pay for a new motor when mine blows up (fully built, $1500 into motor alone) I will happily use Sniper. But you guys can stick with your full bolt on sniper tune, you know, where theres not much you can mess up.
