So you want to disable your speed limit (AKA Governor)? Pictures no up. Here ya go guys!! Remove your dual cup-holders and locate the wiring harness beneath them. Remove the hard plastic piece and Cut the black plastic tap/wrap surrounding the wires. Carefully find the White Wire With The BLACK Stripe. Nearby is a white wire with a green stripe... make sure that's not it Cut the White Wire With The BLACK Stripe. All done!
I added a toggle switch to my governor. For about 3 dollars, you can go to radio shack and buy a small switch. Connect one side of the governor wire to the center terminal, and one to whichever side you want. Drill a small hole in your center console, and mount the switch, I also had to buy a small reel of hook-up wire to lengthen the governor wire.

Your car should have a check engine light pop up after a couple days(roughly 50 miles) This is normal, don't worry. The switch I use makes it so that my light doesn't come on for the governor unless switch is on off for a long period of time(roughly 50 miles). To reset you computer/ get rid of cel, unplug batterie terminals and then plug them back in. If you choose to disable your governor, please be responsible with it. I am not to be held responsible in anyway for your actions or car if you use this.

Here are some pictures that might help. The switch is in all of them because pictures were taken after the mod was done.

I haven't done this because if I did id want to try it out and my car isn't fast enough to get that kinda speed on any tracks around here I could race on. And I'm afraid of going that fast on the highway and getting caught. lol

KnightJovian

so how do you do it for a 2000?

99.5+ needs a chip to unlock the governor.

If you do this does it just disable the governor or does it disable the whole speedometer?

My recomendtions is just go out and buy the superchip sct tuner alot better trust me...

Just the governor.... your speedometer will still work properly just won't prevent you from going over 105

It has nothing to do with what is better. How can it be better at disabling the governor anyways.. it can't. It can just do other things on top of disabling the governor.

This is perfectly fine for anyone who doesn't need/want the added performance given by sct, and/or can't afford the price tag.

the check engine light will come up after 30km when the cutoff is disabled. (at least on canadian zx2s, but I guess its about the same on your cars, about 20miles)

This works on all years.. not just 98-99.5. I have never heard a single thing about some one not being able to do it because their car was 99.5+

TTFOWIA
05-02-2008, 05:24 PM
yeah, its the POTS mods that are different depending on year.

ha ha I agree 99% of the driving situations that i'm in don't alow me to even go over 90, but there are times when I could use this (preferably when teamed up with a good radar detector). but for the most part I perfer to drive resonablely and not have to worry about geting into trouble with the cops or destroying my car.

What happens to the speedometer after 120, does it just bottom out? And if I go over 120 will I mess up the speedometer.

Not if you invest in some s/r 150mph guages :upsidenana:

Actually, if he is a canadadian, 210 in km is only what? 130 and a half or something?

So it's still bull doody unless he is on a steep hill for a good length and is out of gear. It is possible that at one point in time his car was converted over to a s/r pcm and his limiter is up in the 150 some odd range of the s/r.

The cluster doesn't disable the speed governor.

It says he is from Kentucky or something. I looked yesterday before responding.

The white wire w/ black stripe is for the signal coming from the VSS. The ATX needs this data to determine shift timing (see pic)

That is why i put this at top of first post. But thx for the explanation on why it doesn't.

Question with the switch. If you have a switch that lichts up, like a rocker, if you hook it up properly will the light turn on when the limiter is disabled? Or doesn't the wire send a signal until you hit 106 mph?

Apex
07-13-2008, 02:05 AM
The wire is always sending a signal to the PCM, its just that the MTX PCM doesnt really use it. The VSS signal goes directly to the cluster.
I suppose you could use the VSS for powering the light and ground the other end.

well i did the mod... haven't tested it yet but everything seems normal... just have to wait until i have an opportunity to push it over 105 then i'll be able to see if my switch works properly n everything... thanks for the info!

Hells yeah....smack my bitch up. They love it. "flogging the old dog" my pops always says.....what the hell else are cars for?

What would be estimated top speed for a 2000 atx with the limiter removed? I finally hit mine the other day....felt like I could have went faster easily, wasn't even redline on the tach.

that mod was for mtx. can it be used on atm? an to the guys that drive slow, the reason everyone uses mods is to make there car faster. if you dont race dont worry about it. just get a body kit, your doors done, an make your car look pretty. cause you want to do is look cute anyways.

[QUOTE=ZX2BASSER;105361]the reason everyone uses mods is to make there car faster.QUOTE]

Not necessarily, suspension mods don't do anything to make the car go faster (except for being able to take corners faster in some cases). Some of us are modding to get better fuel economy.

IMO the governor is there for a reason, so the driver doesn't kill himself. I like being alive and I know if I cut mine I would definitely take it over 105, so you see my dilemma =/

Edit: ok ok so I thought about it. Better to lived and learned then to not lived at all right? So I wired up a switch and tried it. Hit 110, that was good enough. Figured I wouldn't push it till I got tires that can handle more than 115.
