Which one? Vote on experience or immediate contact with both. (ie: you know someone who is legit and voiced there opinion) --This is for the Home Edition Basic--

Did they ever fix xp64? When it first came out I had major issues with it but then with Vista 64 it was amazing.

Vista64 But, you already knew that...IMO its better for performance orientated builds and a shit load less buggy Posted via Mobile Device

Why would you pay for an operating system thats no longer supported? No new drivers, little manufacturer support, and its buggy. Make the switch to Vista.

And inis, you can run large amounts of RAM on XP 64bit too..

EDIT: The only people who voted for XP have no idea what they are talking about, any probably dont understand what 64-bit means.

vista 64 all the way works great for gaming/workstation builds. I won't go back to 32bit windows or xp

I just keep reading mixed reviews, and they are recent reviews. But i think Im convinced that it will be the way to go.

Vista 64bit all the way. XP64 has numerous compatibility issues that were never resolved. I use Vista and it is perfectly functional now. Anyone refusing to upgrade by now is just afraid of change and delaying the inevitable.

I think most the people voting for xp64 have never really used the vista64 in compare. Or not used either and just prefer Windows XP. Reguardless of what this NOOB said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^, (sorry you deserved it with the way you said that.) Vista64 is the way to go. It is the new technology that will continue to get updates, and compatibility fixes. Software will actually be targetted towards this software. Vista64 is the way to go, why buy old tech?

Kubuntu x64 FTW.

The main problem I have with any 64-bit system is that Flash has never been released for 64-bit systems. Ever.

Its not a case of wich one is "better" (they both suck :)) It all depends on what you are going to do with it??? There are pros and cons about each version. Personally I do not like Microsofts OS's, but if i was to buy one I would purchase Vista 64 ONLY because like others have stated xp will no longer be supported.

I just want to give it a try but dont want issues with it...as in running some games (my older ones to be more exact) AutoCad 09 and just basic computer use. Ive played with Vista a bit on my aunts computer and hated it because it was so slow. But I know that her computer is also slow itself.

It depends on whether you are in the middle of a hardware, OS and gaming software upgrade or if you plan to make an upgrade in the next year or so. If you're using a system you plan to replace soon I'd suggest staying with XP64.

It's not fair to compare Vista vs. XP on an older computer with generic software and expect the same relative performance on high end systems designed specifically for the 64-bit OS.

Don't go out and buy a new copy of XP64 if you aren't already running it. That would be money better set aside future upgrades.

In the long run Vista64 will be the winner between the MS 64-bit operating systems. Depending on what applications you are running now, it may be already there, it may not. I don't have enough info about graphics for gaming systems, but the graphics demands are similar to a lot of 3-D modeling we do at work.

We run 3-D analysis (Finite Element Analysis, not just CAD) and modeling on multi-processor workstations. The big stuff is still run on Unix based systems, but some of the modelers need to use MicroSoft based systems so they can flip back and forth. For now we are staying with XP64.

The bugs with XP64 are mostly worked out, bugs still exist with Vista64 for a lot of modeling software and even with Vista64's better memory management, the applications run faster under XP64. (When you are doing 10,000+ interations for 1000+ nodes, speed is essential.)

My suggestion is a) determine if the software you wants to run requires a 64-bit OS then b) determine how well the specific games you plan on playing run under Vista64 and if there are any known major bugs. Plan on running as much memory as you can afford. I assume for anyone who is considering Vista64 the cost of processors and memory isn't an issue. Within a year, expect both the games and Vista64 to have worked out remaining problems.

Sooner or later you will need to make the switch to vista64 or whatever comes after it.

If you want a 64 bit Windows OS... Vista. XP64 has issues that just compound over time. XP64 runs blazing fast after the initial install... but after about 1-2 weeks of solid use performance starts degrading. You don't experience these problems with Vista x64.

XP64 runs great if you don't add in a lot of crap end-user programs ( I have multiple support contracts for businesses running xp, with no problems.) Vista x64 is getting better with every upgrade... but late '09 early '10 will be replaced by the next microsoft upgrade.

I can't say anyhting for Vista as I've only used the 32 bit version I think, but XP Pro x64 isn't too fun to deal with... I was given a copy with a trade of a bunch of stuff. When I built my new system I thought, "what the heck, I'll try it since it's a 64 bit processor." Not a very easy OS to deal with as far as compatibility goes. Some drivers won't run on 64 bit, so you gotta find the 64 bit versions or your hardware won't work. The glitchiness of it was just too much trouble for me, so I found a key for 32 bit XP Home lying around and I installed that and since I've been fine.

Although I've never dealt with Vista 64 bit, get it anyway, it's probably much better than XP x64...

Thanks everyone for the input. I will be going with Vista.

Does it seem that windows is releasing the new OS too soon? (windows 7 I thought i saw) It seems like Vista just came out
