i picked one up at the junk yard out of a wagon and it made a noticeable difference. at 70mph im now at 3000-3100 rpm. on the freeway, my 4th to 5th shift drops the rpm's by 1000rpm's. not bad for minimal junk yard cost. btw, im cheap when it comes to mods. real easy to do too. im going to post a how to soon with pics.

What year wagon did you get it out of. And did all the wagons have this larger gear? Give some info please.

all escort sedans (97+, 5 speeds) have a .717 5th. iirc the only year wagon you can transfer the gear from is 97 cause it has the same trans as the sedans and it was the last year they made the wagons. umm, my car had a .78 5th cause i have the 98 trans.
heres my how to

This will help only if you are on the highway a lot, and also if you go faster than about 65 mph.
Several hundred RPMs is not the whole story. If the country is hilly, stock is better.

Plus you will have to save a lot of gas in order to pay for the gears,if you use new.
