Well, I have a 1200W Sony amp in my trunk attached to the back of my rear seat. Today after a nice little drive with some constant double-bass drum rock going I noticed that my bass dropped out, then shortly came back in. It did this twice. My last tiny little amp did this whenever it got too hot so I figure I'm having the same issue. I checked the amp, absolutely too hot to touch. =x Any ideas on cooling the amp? It's kinda in it's own little cubby back there between the seat and my sub box.

You could put the seat down, you could by a 12v computer fan from radioshack, be sure to check the ohms of your setup, some amps aren't 1 ohm stable.
I doubt it's from placement. More likely you are running it at too low of a load. AKA if you amp says it's lowest load is 4 ohm and you are feeding it a 2ohm load because of the way your subs are wired it will do that.

I'll have to check, not sure off hand. I wasn't the one who installed the amp honestly. I know the basic setup but a group of us got together and threw it in for speed.
It hasn't given me this problem yet and I've been running it this way for over a month. It's only done this today and it's pretty warm out.

if it is due to a low load it is just now showing signs of a problem because now all the internal components have been stressed and are now pissed off lol
