Ok. My question is how do I know if I have it? And if I do, ho do I hook it up? There is a wire going into the area where the trunk latch is. I don't have power locks or windows if it matters. but I do have power mirrors. And I think I have the harness for the power goodies going into the doors, but I'm not sure.

some 98's came with this. If your car had a remote, then it has it. If you do not know for sure, open your trunklid and look inside of it. There you will see the solenoid hooked up to the release of the trunk. If it is there then you can install a trunk release switch also.

I'm pretty sure it's there cause there is that wire leading into the trunk latch area. I just need to know how to hook it up. And what do you mean by "a remote?"
Thanks

I wish my '98 came with a trunk button. :(
I may have to hook one up when you get instructions. :)

Well how would I have a remote without power locks and windows? And how do you hook the trunk release up to a button if you don't have the remote?

there is a how to that has already been done about this. Use the search to find it. I just got done installing it on my 98.

pretty sure, means I don't know. To be sure of it, remove the liner from the trunk underneath the antennae. From there you will see if you have a little box bolted to the side. If you do have this box (it may be white or gray depending on how early your car was made), then you have a trunk release and usually a door release. Depending on the design of the box, will determine what type of remote you will need. If it is on that has the antennae connected to it, you will need an early style remote. If it does not have the antennae connecting to it, you can use the remote style that is pictured.

Wait, I absolutely need a remote? I can't just wire an button into the passenger compartment?
It would be nice to have a remote, but it's pointless without the power locks.

some 98's came with a driver door only remote. It opened the trunk and the driver door. This was an option that was on cars with or without power locks

Really? It physically unlatches the door or just unlocks it? I'd still need extra stuff for this. The original question still stands - can I just wire it with a button inside the car so I don't need to use my key to open the trunk?

really, if your car has this feature (the sticker on the remote module will say so), the door will unlock.
as for installing a trunk release, here is the thread for it:

Wow. I searched for that thread and it did not show up in the results.
And last question - how do you tell from the box if you have the door release?
Thanks.

use a 10mm socket, remove the little box I mentioned, then read the sticker. The sticker will tell you if it is the driver door only. If it does not say driver door only, then it will work for both doors

o cool... I looked, and I do have a white box. Now I'm guessing there is a thread that talks about programming the remote and how to know what remote to get?
I would look, but I haz no time atm.

This is what I did for my car a week ago.

I know it's on the FEOA.NET board - but it is a little different than the write up posted here.
Hope it helps
