Here is a guide to replacing your fuel filter on a ZX2.

Tools needed:

Screw Driver
Nitrile gloves
10 mm Wrench

1. With the engine off, in the engine compartment fuse box, pull out and set aside the Fuel Pump Fuse.

2. Attempt to start the engine or let it run until it dies. This will relieve the fuel pressure from the line.

3. Unplug the IAT Sensor and remove the air intake hose between the Air Filter/MAF housing and the upper resonator as shown below.

4. Disconnect the negative battery cable and cover up the negative cable so it doesn't accidentally touch the terminal.

5. Loosen the hose clamp around the filter to make it a little easier to remove the retaining clips.

6. Using a flat screw driver, remove the clips from the top and the bottom of the filter by either prying or breaking them off. You may need to go under the car or use a mirror to look and see how the lower clip is oriented so you can remove it.

7. Place a bunch of paper towels and a small container underneath the fuel filter to catch some of the fuel that will leak out from the lines.

8. Remove the top hose from the fuel filter by just pulling up while holding onto the filter. Let the fuel in the line drain into the container.

9. While holding onto the lower line with one hand, pull the fuel filter up and out of the lower fuel line. (Note: a good amount of fuel will spill out of the filter when you do this)

10. Make sure you have two new clips with your filter. Position the hose clamp on the top of the fuel filter as shown.

11.Insert the clips into the lower and upper ends of the hose. And push all the way in until looks like the second photo. The tabs on the clips when inserted properly will be pointing away from the fuel filter. A good idea for putting these clips on is to orient them a way that it will be easy to remove them when the next filter change comes around.

Lower hose, clip positioned to be inserted:

Upper hose, clip fully inserted and ready to be attached:

12. While holding the lower fuel line, insert the lower end of the fuel filter into the fuel line until it snaps into place. Now snap in the upper hose the same way.

13. Attach the hose clamp to the fuel filter bracket and tighten in the position shown below.

14. Clean up any fuel spilled in the general area, and then reconnect the negative battery cable.

15. Replace the 20amp Fuel Pump fuse in the engine compartment fuse box.

16. Turn the key to the run position but do not start the car. This will energize the fuel pump briefly and pressurize the fuel line.

17. Visually inspect the fuel filter and lines for any leaks. Turn the key to the off position.

18. Replace the intake hose that was removed earlier and reconnect the IAT sensor connector.

19. Start the car up, check for any fuel leaks again. If all looks good, take the car for a drive.

Nice How To!

Basically same thing that I just did. Only thing i didnt do is disconnect the battery or drain the lines. I covered side and battery with a blanket... And with the gas lines... Not much pressure in them, i didnt find them to squirt at all...

A REMINDER TO EVERYONE!!!!
LET YOUR MOTOR COOL OFF BEFORE DOING THIS!!!

I didn't write the how-to. It was sent to me, from the old site.

I've always done mine, by pressing the fuel stop switch in the trunk, or in the driver's side kick panel.

Also some older ZX2's have a pressure release valve on the fuel rail.

Is it possible to reuse the plastic clips. I have a new replacement fuel filter that i have had for 2 years now and i misplaced the clips... Could i got to any auto store and buy just the clips?

If you don't break the old clips when taking them out you can re-use them.

if i remember right from the last time i changed mine they're pretty cheap at the parts store. Ive found that its that old catch 22, if you buy them before hand you dont need them (meaning you got the old ones out without breaking them) however if you dont buy them figureing you'll be able to reuse the old ones then you'll break them

Autozone does not have the fuel filter with clips - went there, found out, and walked out.

Went to Advance and they had the Purolator filter that comes with the clips.
