i had to take camden to the emergency room last night. he is now 8 months old. turns out he had a testicular torsion-the right testicle had twisted inside of him, cutting off bloodflow to the testicle. they had to do emergency surgery to try and save the testicle, but when they went in there, it was black and dead, and they had to remove it. it was just hard....it happened so quick...i didn't expect camden to all of a sudden have to go into surgery....the surgeon said that this type of situation, resulting in removal if the teste is very rare-camden was his 4th case in 19 years of practice. they also tacked the left testicle in place so that it couldn't move around and twist itself...don't want to take any risks with one 1 remaining testicle. just had to vent, i'm tired, my heart hurts from going through so much in 16 hours....thanks for listening...

That's horrible he had to go through that. Never heard of this condition. :(

At least he went through it at an age where he won't remember it. Hope he's feeling OK soon.

I'm glad he's alright, and it wasn't more serious.

Um not to sound like a dick, but this could lead to some *ahem* relationship problems when he is older. IIRC there are ways to have a false testicle put in...

lol you don't sound like a dick at all. once he has completed puberty he can have a testicular implant, which i talked to my husband about and we decided we will pay for it if he decides he wants to have that done. i'm well aware that it could cause him some grief and i certainly don't want him to be self conscious of it..

Good, I'd also suggest speaking with someone on how and when to tell him about it.

You seem to have all bases covered though.

i was planning on telling him around 4th grade, when they start introducing the basics of sex ed and puberty..i don't want to tell him too soon so that he feels ashamed, but i want to tell him first before kids make fun of him:<

they could do an implant now, but it would have to be replaced to a larger adult-size implant once puberty hit and i didnt' think that was necessary.

Lance's weight reduction is why he is so fast on a bicycle!

But in all seriousness, one physologist said that Lance's one testicle altering his body chemistry and hormone levels may be the reason why he actually became a better athlete after he recovered from cancer.

Oh Kerrie, I'm so sorry to hear about Camden! That must be tough for you as a Mom, but really, something that happens so fast, you did what you could. I'm glad that he's okay otherwise though.. *HUGS!*

awww thanks guys! hopefully if he becomes very very rich and an olympic athlete of sorts he will remember his dear mommy <3! lol. thanks for the support. camden is actually doing very well today. sleeping a TON, but he was actually wanting to crawl around, and even seems to be crawling better! i was worried because before, he wouldn't move his right leg while crawling, and now looking back, i wonder if there was too much pressure up there because of the testicle that it was painful to move. thanks all! i'm hoping he continues to recover well.

I remember when John Kruk had to take time off to get one removed.

OK, bad example.

My dad ended up doing that a few years ago. Did it at work, and they managed to save it. My dad has lost a finger, and gotten burned at work. He never once made it look like he was in pain. But he couldn't even walk when that happened.

Is he going to be allright though?

There's no need for an implant unless it's purely cosmetic.

Also, having one testicle will not affect his performance later on down the road at all. Furthermore, any woman that'd dump a guy over that isn't worth having.

Yours truly lost one back in the day because it never descended properly so it was removed when I had a hernia operation because they found it to be precancerous. I always knew myself with one so life didn't change much. As an adult, I have never missed it at all. The wife has never complained, so all is well.

Connal-

He will be alright. the dr. just said that we would have to take extra precautions such as making sure to wear a cup for any sports or activities camden would want to be involved in, just to make sure nothing happens to the one he has left. but i was reassured by the surgeon that fertility and puberty and hormones would not be affected. and that he could get a prosthetic for cosmetic purposes if needed. i just feel bad for him!

I meant for cosmetic purposes. Just if he's 17 messing around with a girl and she says all of a sudden whats with this? It might hurt his self esteem a bit. But I agree with you 100% mizz

Will this mean he is sterile? May be a stupid question but IDK...

Sorry to hear this :[

SoCalZX2

No, the 2nd testi is just backup anyways. You don't need both to be fertile. But he'll have to be careful in life when playing around... as to not damage the remaining one.

sorry to hear this , The surgery is not always fun .

Kerrie

thanks all for the thoughts and support! i am so blessed :D and to answer the question, he will not be sterile but will have to wear a cup in all possibly contact activities as to not take a chance with the remaining teste. cause i want grandchildren someday haha. camden actually is doing great! he feels much better. he laughed all day and smiled and played and actually crawled. we have been very lucky he is recovering so quickly and that they didn't have to remove both...the dead teste had been in there 5 days the surgeon said and there could have been a chance that an infection could have set in and spread to the healthy one. so i'm glad that it worked out, even though it was no fun to go through. after seeing camden helpless as he was wheeled in for surgery, i'm voluntarily becoming house bound all week and just cuddling with him and spending time with him and holding him....that was the more heart-wrenching thing! thanks for all your thoughts and support teamzx2!!!!

ok just dont become one of those moms that is over protective and is worried about everything the kid does so he doesnt lose the other one. let him grow up and be a boy just like everyone else, im sure there will be more broken bones to come with scraped elbows and what not, just remember boys will be boys.
