I've got a little problem. I'm not really sure what I should do.

My girlfriend and I need to move out of our current apartment Dec. 31. The lease is up. I've lived here for 2 years, and I hate this complex. The management sucks. They don't treat me the same as other renters, and I think it's because of how I look. I hate tattoos, piercings, a loud car, and I'm up late at night. My rent has NEVER been late, I've always been considerate and I have never had any complaints against me. However, my complex seems to just nit pick at everything. This place is a very "white collar" high society Richy-rich neighborhood. I really don't like it here, and I don't fit in.
So basically, we want to move. We also want a cheaper place. This place is pretty expensive, and the electric bill is nuts because of the electric heat.

Now, here's the problem. I had 2 jobs this year, that both did not work out, and I ended up being wrongfully fired from the third, but that was at the beginning of the year. Now I'm stuck trying to find a job, while my girlfriend foots the bills, and my parents help out. BTW, this is killing me. I grew up being taught I had to provide for my family. And I know it's not a big deal that my girlfriend is paying for everything, but for me, it's almost demeaning. And I really hate that my parents have to help. This really sucks.

We want to move to a cheaper place, because when I get a job, I'll be able to afford the rent again, and won't feel helpless anymore.
My girlfriend was looking to get a loan from the bank that would provide enough money for us to move, and pay for the bills associated with moving. However, it's not looking like she'll get approved because we have too much other stuff to pay. And there's no way in hell I can get a loan, because when I was younger, I was stupid, and defaulted on 2 credit cards. So my credit is shit now. But I have learned my lesson, and do not have any loans, or other debt anymore, and will continue to not have any debt, until I have a steady, reliable paycheck, and can get a secured credit card to build back up my credit.

So I've been rolling around the idea in my head, but I can't make a decision, and not really sure if I'll be able to make one. The idea is to sell my ZX2, and buy a cheaper car, and have cash left for the move, and anything that may be wrong with the "new" car. We will still have her car, although it's really not a great car, and she needs a new car as well. But mine is worth more, and I can get enough money to help us move, and get something cheaper although not as nice.

So guys... Any advice for someone who screwed up in the past, but has learned his lesson the hard way and wants to move on?

Maybe I should just play the lottery and hope I'll be that 1 in 3 million chance that wins the jackpot......

can't imagine you'd get enough out of the zx2 to sell it and buy another car...AND have enough left over to make all that worth while. On top of that, selling a car , getting a good return out of it will take some time. Which looks like you dont have.

If it was me, I would be trying to take any employement regaurdless if its out of your pay scale, or expertise. Some money is better the NO money.

Work with that, then try to find a ideal job.. on top of that, having some income will help with your move.

^^ That's what I'm doing. I'm looking for ANYTHING. But people aren't hiring or they aren't calling me back. I've been applying to everything. I've been calling jobs back, multiple times. I can't work full time cause I'm going to school, so that's taking a big chunk of potential jobs out.

I figured if I sold my Z for 4k, I'd buy something for about 2k, and then save 1k for the move. Then whatever was left I'd go part crazy to get the 2k car running tip top. Nothing aftermarket or not not needed, but stuff it would need for the long run. My Z is an 01, in excellent shape with only 57k miles. KBB says its work 4500 or so. I can't remember the exact figure.

But your right, it probably would take me awhile to sell the Z, and I'm not sure if I want to get rid of it in the first place. But I'm just not sure what else is left. I'm doing the absolute best I possibly can at finding a job, making some kind of money.

I've tried spreading the word about detailing. I can wash/wax cars for friends and they can spread the word. I've told people I'd do brake jobs, oil changes, basic car stuff.

I've been filling out applications daily. applying everywhere whether their hiring or not.

Not sure what else to do.

Thanks Eric. I just applied to Infernos in Troy for Pizza delivery. I think there's probably a good chance I'll get that one. I drove for dominos pizza for over 2 years. He told me to call him tomorrow around 1. I hope I get it. I really do...

Actually I was planning on going there on my break tomorrow. I just found out about them yesterday. I never drove down that way before, had no idea they were there.

I already applied to Pizza hut down from school too.

Werd. I think Deli and brew just hired more people, maybe they are looking. There were some faces I didn't recognize in there on saturday. Definitely check out I <3 NY though. I will keep my eyes open for anywhere with a help wanted sign that is out your way.

I feel for ya bro. I'm in almost the SAME boat as you. I quit my job two months ago because it was a 3rd shift job and i was around a bunch of crackheads (literally) now i am down to bare bone dollars and I have to make rent tomorrow. Im going to be getting a job doing nijection molding, but they have to figure out a time that I can get trained, as they need to send down a tech to specially train me. And on top of that, me and my roomates gf are clashing and I want to get the hell out of my apartment asap, but i have to give 30 days notice. Now i have to move back in with mom and dad until i can save up enough money to get my own place without any roomates.

The economy sucks. Ive spent the last few months calling and calling different places trying to get a job, but Rhode Island is in worse depression than any of the other states.

If you're willing to make the move an hour north, I know of at least 2 places that are defenetly hiring. One is delivery, the other is cooking. You arn't going to make big bucks, but they just put in 2 new developments within 10 minutes of both these palces and have many spots open in them for new tenants. I'm sure you could even get a job at Target distribution off ext 15, or Finch Paper off 19 as well. ACC is also up there, 10-15 away if yuo're trying to stay in school. That's what I'd be doing if I wasnt out here in Buffalo for school anyways.

^^ Thanks for the info, but I go to school at HVCC. I can't move to far away from there. I need to finish my degree so I can stop this endless road to nowhere.

Thanks for the ideas though...
