The only swap i really consider to be worth a damn, but to each his own.
Not to put down people doing the v6 swaps, props to ya.

Sick car. Can it turn well though? Or strictly a drag vehicle.

Im gunna say no with all that weight. Just like how when you drop a 302 in a miata, you lose all the handling it was made for.

It would be faster if it was a chevy motor.

That's definatly not a zx2 anymore. They dropped out the zetec motor and that's where the Z came from. It's some kind of freak hybrid.

04-17-2008, 11:25 PM
Correction, hybrid means electric or another fuel/power source. A 351 Windsor engine runs on gasoline. ;)

its a zx2 deal with it! zx2 body, stock interior. just cuz they put a huge engine in it and tubed it out doesn't mean anything. that like saying the V6 swap makes the z not a z anymore

Yes, I spotted that monster at the local dragstrip a couple years ago. Sadly, he wouldn't let me drive it, or hump it.

No its not a ZX2 because they dropped the entire car, except for the shell.. The entire frame is custom..

The ZX2 doesn't have a frame. He added the frame so the car wouldn't twist in a knot.
That thing is stupid awesome.

I want to see an Auto X with a V8.. that would be MUCH cooler. But that thing is still sweet though!
Buster

The weight distribution would probably be all wrong for auto-X. It would probably do a forward roll! :D

aw com on. not this freakin debate anymore. the car was named a ZX2 at production, it still is. but it's fuckin heavily modified.
its as if I said "ITS NOT A CIVIC ANYMORE! ITS A PRELUDE, ITS GOT AN H22A!"

I say it is in the sense that the Vin says it is... but IDK... cause The whole Z in ZX2 stands for Zetec
So my Q is if it isn't a ZX2... then what is it?
WX2?
haha I just ask myself what I'd say if I saw it on the street... "Look at that ZX2 guys!!!" so I guess in my mind it's still a ZX2
haha, as i was watching the video of this beast a rice mobile drove down the road in all of its farting glory and it made me cry a little inside :-( damn shitty rusty hondas ruining everything!!!

What about the zx3's with duratecs?
What about the zx3's with duratecs?
They started with zetecs, and if you saw one with a 351 I don't think the badging changes.

I think a streetable Rwd Zx2 would be nice to have which I don't think is possible with a motor that size, maybe a 13b or even the 2.0 Coworth I was showing everyone would be good options. When I get my house I'm actually thinking about trying a Rwd set up using a Ford 9" rear end which I have 2 spares layin around.

somebody is doing the swap now. check the photo phorum, i think its nearly done too. there using a 302 however, but any v8 would be sweet.

07-17-2008, 11:03 PM
the whole V8 thing to me is pointless I can use the 2.0 Cossy or the 13b and the car would still be able to handle in auto x with the same hp due to the weight being similar to that of the Zetec, V8's are strictly for drag I imo

nothing would sound more badass than 8 cylinders firing under the hood of a zx2 though.

True it would be pretty sick to pull up next to one on the street

actually, there are plenty of v8 miatas that still handle great.
the car in this thread WONT handle well because it was built to be a drag car. but the engine is so far back that if you built the same thing with the intention of making it handle well, you could probably get good weight distribution out of it. In stock form the ZX2 is kinda slushy anyways. It needs suspension work to really come alive.
If i had about 10 grand to play around with, I would love to build a rwd windsor based ZX2. With a good corner weighted coilover setup, i bet it would be like a go kart.
