ok, so after a few years my brother finally got a car. tried to talk him into a zx2 but he wouldnt have it. he was set on getting a old muscle car. just a few problems,
1. they are old and if good shape way out of his price range
2. we live in wisconsin and this needs to be his dd

he also insisted on a few stuff like it has to be black, mtx, and at least a v6. kinda pig headed for a poor kid and rising gas prices on the v6 option.

the other two are cool and i dont have a problem with it.

anyways he got a car from a dealership it is a 2001 chev cavalier z24
it is black but its atx

and omg he thinks he is the shit now. since its a 2.4 twin cam he likes to talk shit like he can beat me. but i just laugh it off.

anyways let me get to his stupid part.
so he decides to start buying stuff for it and he hasnt even owned it for 2 weeks.

so he called me up and told me he got a supercharger for it for 80$, and right away i knew it was a scam. but i just wanted to wait and see what he got. so he got it and it was a tornado, i knew that right away as soon as i saw it. lol stupid mistake number one. he insistes it works but i doubt it, and then he tells me he is getting a super chip from ebay too, mistake number 2. lol
and then he is planning to do a dual exhaust with a racing header.

i tell him just to get an intake and that will do you enough justice for a 4 cylinder. but i can see him already spending all that money on stupid ebay shit, and i dont want him to but he wont listen. so i showed him two chevcav forums and he probably wont join or even check them out. he thinks he is speed racing with a 4 cylinder and i think i see a future ricer and ive already made the presumption that this winter he will crash it because he will be going to fast and slide or something.

he already crashed one of my parents chev cav by going around a turn way to fast and hitting black ice and hitting a light pole totaling it. that car was a mtx and i loved that car, i learned stick on it, and he crashed it, so again i say stupid brother and he just wont listen to me. sorry had to vent because i know my parents dont care what he spends his money on, he will be living at home at the age of 50 i can just tell by his attitude about everything in life and this car is just the beginning.

Racine isn't too far from the IL boarder, right? if i can get my car on it's feet again by friday..you should have him come down to Joliet (just south of chicago) on saturday, where i'll be racing my zx2. i can show him how dog slow his cavy is compared to a z :D

hell, have him enter the race..it's like 40 bucks i think...then he can compare his times with all the other cars at the event (sort of...cuz the other guys will have experience..and even a slow car is fast with a fast driver).

with an atx....it might. if you were mtx, i'd say if you drive well, high 15's.

bad idea (i speak from experience). and you should be able to beat a 16.7 with an atx just flooring it, as long as you don't have extra weight in the car.

either one. not much different between the two. when i took my car to the track i put it in OD and ran like a 16.2 with Intake, header, exhaust, UDP. Pulling the knock sensor the next week made a big difference, so it could've done better.

i downshift auto's from time to time. i do it in my grandfathers Tahoe if i'm towing something and going down a long hill where i don't want to decimate the brakes (like when i vacationed with him in Colorado). i also find it a good way to say "fuck you" when i drop my wife's malibu into a lower gear if someone is right on my ass and i can't even see their headlights. i don't give people the benefit of brake lights :D

I don't like to use the brakes more than I have to on dirt and gravel roads. I'm not really comfortable with them and I worry about them locking, so I prefer downshifting when I am towing heavy crap.

My dad had a wonderful way of helping me with this. He would tell me once and only once that it was a bad idea, but not why (unless i would harm myself....) and then let me do it. Only after I had fucked up and did something stupid would I go "Oh shit you were right." i eventually got the hang of it and learned that if he said no, there was a good reason why, then i would question why and he would explain. Worked like a charm.

And btw, my intake for my fire gt was off eBay. It wasn't crap either. It was actually a decent intake. And those eBay chips do nothing for cavi's. They actually hurt performance but a huge amount.

One more thing, if it was a manual, and he knew how to drive it, I bet he could give you a decent run for your money in a race with your ZX2.
